--- 1971 BMW 2002 with 83,500 original miles, NUMBERS MATCHING, well documented with records and has always been on the west coast. Car remains all original with just proper maintenance using all OEM or BMW parts. The original owner was an old lady living in San Francisco, she passed away, leaving the car to her son. Her son lost interest in the car and let it sit in his garage for many years. The son later sold the car to one of his good friends in Oregon, who kept it for over 10 years, and only drove 4,000 miles in that time. I acquired the car and have owned it for a while, sitting in my garage in very excellent all original condition. - The car has had a head rebuild within the last 5,000 miles, it turns over immediately, hot or cold and has never left me stranded on way to and from BMW events. The engine pulls strong with a freshly rebuilt Solex 40 carburetor. - There have been mild suspension updates with more modern bushings from Meyle at OEM specifications, as well as a strut bar to keep the car from age-warping. - Mechanically the car is in excellent condition with no leaks from the engine or transmission. All gears shift smoothly, with no 2nd gear grinding which seems to be common in 2002's. - Interior remains all original and perfect with the exception of small seam rips on the drivers seat from wear and age. I do have a replacement seat insert from another 1971 2002 with caramel interior, to keep it all original. The carpet is in immaculate condition, always having had mats in the car to keep it clean. The dash has one small crack forming from age but has not broken all the way through. The rear seat and passenger seat appear unused and in immaculate condition. The belts even remain the deep black that they were when new. - There are new tires on the euro-sport wheels which are in balance, with no rash or cracks. This car is ready for shows, drives, or to be put into a collection. It is very original, unique and has documentation, and very attentive owners which have paid the utmost attention to detail and mechanical aspects of the vehicle. I receive several compliments and thumbs-up whenever I take the car out, remembering others about their previous experiences with a 2002 or their fond memories of them. The original colour was Sahara" -- Via BMW Mobile Traditions: Historical Archives Information pulled form miscellaneous records: - Head was rebuilt August 2006 by Aluminum Head Rebuilders in Portland. It was pressure tested, valve grind, decked and had a new cam and cam seats put in. Head was installed with Tii Gasket in early 2007 - Brand new Eibach spring and Bilstein struts were installed in 2003, along with a ST 22/19 swaybar setup and front strut bar. - Carburetor was rebuilt July 2009. - New Calipers and Rotors and Pads and Lines completed 2006 through 2009. Brakes bled last in June 2011.- All new gaskets and mounts in May 2007. - New Water Pump, hoses, triple core radiator (All OEM) completed in 2008- New shifter bushings in June 2011- Ignition parts all renewed in 2008 through 2011. (Distributor rebuilt and tuned Sept 2008 -- Dwell: 57, Timing @ 1900RPM 25)- Transmission serviced in 2003 with all new bearings, seals, new clutch and pressure plate w/ throw out bearing and new master/slave cylinders
