Vehicle Detail

I have owned this Buick for Nine years. It was bought from a collection of over three hundred cars that were assembled over a period of many years by a local postman. Many of these cars were stored inside of his barns and chicken houses and were protected from the elements, this is one of those cars. When I bought the car in 2003, it had been in storage for 41 years. The car was used locally and had spent most of it`s life in High Point NC. The car was also featured in the Buick Club of America`s Magazine, The Buick Bugle in March 2010. The article can be seen @ mccainautomotive.com/BuickArticle.htm The car needed the usual mechanical work to get it roadworthy, but there were no major problems with it. The floors were solid with NO rust in them and the body was almost as good, with one small area of rust in the lower rear panel. I was going to re-paint it, but after cleaning it up and sanding and buffing it I didn`t see any reason to. As you can see in the pictures, unless you want to spend a lot of money and time to make it look 10% better, a paint job just isn`t necessary. I was able to get an engine from a `39 Buick with 62,000 miles on it to replace the one in the car. Before I installed it, I did a few things to it. Here is the list. The car also comes with the original engine and many other parts. Complete valve job including hardened seatsNew main bearingsNew timing ChainNew timing GearsComplete Gasket set and sealsNew Motor MountsElectric fuel pumpRe-built CarburetorNOS DistributorRe-built water pumpRe-built starterAll new hoses and beltsRe-cored RadiatorNew 12Volt alternatorI also re-built the transmission with new bearings, seals, and gaskets. The flywheel was surfaced and a new pilot bearing and throw out bearing were also installed at that time. The clutch disc was replaced, but the pressure plate looked ok so I used it over. I should have replaced it because it chatters in reverse. The brakes were completely replaced with new or re-built parts, This included re-lined brake shoes, new wheel cylinders, seals, a re-built master cylinder, brake light switch, and all new flexible hoses.Silicone brake fluid was also installed at that time. The front suspension has has the king pins, wheel bearings, tie rod ends and grease seals replaced. The car was re-wired and converted to 12 volts. It has halogen headlight bulbs, fog lamps an air horn, and hidden turn signals, the switch is located under the dash, not on the column. The exterior is in good shape. It has two places that have small bubbles under the paint. They are located on the lower part of the drivers door, and a place behind the right qtr. class. All of the weather strip around the glasses was replaced, as well as the windshields, door glasses, and vent windows. Both of the door weatherstrips have been replaced. The running boards have been recovered. Both front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed as well as the bumper guards. The car has a new (less than a thousand miles) set of wide bias ply whitewall tires on stock powder coated wheels and stock `38 hubcaps. The interior has been completely re-done in leather look vinyl in tan. The headliner is fabric and the carpet also has custom made mats. The trunk has been carpeted also. The dash and all of the garnish moldings have had new wood grain applied. New dash knobs, map light lens and glove box lock bezel. There is an am/fm/cd player with remote located behind the dash and a Trico vacuum fan in the steering column. Even the clock works! This Buick is currently being driven regularly and is licensed and insured in the state of North Carolina with a valid NC title so there won`t be any surprises when you go to your local DMV office to title it. The car runs and drives like any74 year old car. It starts instantly and does not smoke, but it`s an old car and I encourage you to inspect it before you bid. Everything I have written about this car is correct and truthful but again, I would prefer that any prospective buyer to inspect it before bidding. I have always had 100% positive feedback and I want to keep it that way. Shipping is the responsibility of the winning bidder, Local pick up only. I will assist with loading, but if you`re local, just drive it home. At the end of bidding, the winning bidder is to pay a one thousand dollar deposit within 24 hours, and the balance when the car is picked up.Pay Pal will be accepted for deposit, and cash or electronic bank transfer for the balance.
