Vehicle Detail
Selling my 1996 Pontiac Trans AM. Car has 195000kms on it with lots of upgrades done and proper maintenance but does not run at the moment so it is being sold as-is as a project for someone with some extra cash and time to put into it. I estimate about $650-$800 would complete this car depending on the quality of parts you use to do so and who does the labour. The only things needed to get the car running is to reinstall an opti spark distributor and the only thing to make the car track ready and road worthy is a 10-bolt differential or a rebuild on the current one. I will summarize the condition of the car in several paragraphs. The body on this vehicle is rust free and has only seen snow twice but with undercoating on it every year, first year I used a waxed based coating and second year was a heavy duty oil spray. The car was painted lime green 2 years ago so the paint is relatively new but not perfect still. There is a minor body imperfection on the right rear quarter panel which has been sanded and painted but should be repainted with a gun and some thicker paint for perfection. Tires are new on the back and pretty wide (255/45/16) and the front tires are a year old and show some wear. The rear differential is a 10 bolt with different gears possibly (my transmission mechanic said it didn’t look stock) that has been maintained but unfortunately began grinding in OD a few months ago. Car was still drive-able like this but have not put any stress on it ever since this started and did not take the cover off yet to check. Transmission is 3 years old as told by the previous owner who replaced it. Fluid has stayed pink for the entire time I’ve owned it and I have changed the fluid every year with receipts. When I bought the car and found out it had a new transmission, I immediately added a LPD large transmission cooler to it and this year I decided change the transmission fluid myself and upgrade the pan as well to chrome 2 qt. pan with a drain plug for additional cooling. Car shifts strong and firm every gear at appropriate times. Motor is a lightly modded LT1 350 5.7L V8 with ODB2. Top end was rebuilt last year with a very mild cam upgrade and tried to switch to an electric water pump but unfortunately that failed and head gaskets had to be replaced after and heads had to be shaved so compression was increased on this motor. The motor hasn’t been tuned so this car should only run on premium gas especially if being put under a lot of stress. Pacesetter long tube headers with a y-pipe were also added shortly after but the cats were taken off at this time so in order to be street legal it will need cats. Muffler is a flowmaster but the rest of the exhaust system is still stock and sounds really loud and deep. Interior is about an 8/10 condition wise. Drivers leather seat shows some wear on the sides and drivers bucket seat has a small rip, the other two seats are still mint and the leather has been maintained properly. Rest of the interior looks new with a 5” Tach as well which has a working shift light even though the car is an automatic. Car has the stock stereo still, did not bother upgrading it to get it stolen around here. All windows are scratch free but unfortunately this fbody has the usual power window issues with both sides. Power window isn’t working on the drivers side. Motor is new but came off its track somehow, might need to be reseated or wasn’t done properly. Power window on passenger side goes up and down very slow which means it’s on the way out. Drivers side door has some issues with the latch closing, doesn’t close properly half of the time, the door may need to be aligned again or may need a new hinge. It will still close but is a pain. Suspension on the car is still tight and I have checked it every year. Tie rods were done when I first bought the car but that’s it. No sharp turns or stupid stuff done with this car while I owned it. E-brake is functional and the car has brand new cross drilled rotors with premium pads that are about 1000kms old. Car has a new fuel pump I was told to when I bought it, I have changed the fuel filter every year and the injectors were cleaned out when the top end of the motor was rebuilt. Also replaced the crank sensor and added a cold air intake recently when the car wouldn’t get injector pulse or spark due to a bad opti spark. I have described the car to the best of my knowledge to anyone interested. I’m not a mechanic but I do know most of the basics so hopefully those paragraphs will help a buyer that is interested. Winning bidder will need to tow the car obviously since it isn’t running and if the person wanted to get it running a.s.a.p, the opti spark will need to be reinstalled properly. Payment and pickup will be cash in person and may require a deposit depending on how well we communicate. Zero feedback and scam bidders will be reported to ebay and have their bid removed. Good Luck!
