He was 36 years of age at the time. Upon his passing in 2009, (at age 75), the Cougar was bequeathed to his surviving wife. The car has been regularly started and driven around the neighborhood. This was Glenn's pride & joy. All in the community that knew him, were aware of his fondness for his Cougar. The engine was rebuilt in 1999, the transmission was rebuilt in 2008. (documented) The entire car was repainted in 1990 in the correct Mercury color code. The paint still shows well and has nice luster! All brightwork (chrome) trim is present and in good, presentable condition. The bumpers present nicely. Factory original carpet, w/the original Cougar floormats still present. In 2008, period correct Magnum 500 wheels were added along with new tires. There are approximately 4K miles on them. The factory AC was converted in 2004 and blows cold. All original, matching numbers drivetrain. The top (pinpoint vinyl) is in good condition and operates properly in both power (up/down) modes. Glass rear window. Parade boot with storage bag. The window gaskets and rubber moldings are decent, though starting to show their age. 351 Cubic Inch V8, starts, idles and pulls strong. There are NO annoying drips or leaks! The car runs cool from a temperature and profile standpoint. Dual Exhaust system has a nice rumble that is not overstated. Period Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette Supertuner (plays fine) All lights, safety features and equipment are fully operational. Despite the Dash Topper, the dash at 42 years of age still has a couple of small cracks. Replacement dash pads are reasonably priced and readily available if one wishes to correct this aesthetic flaw. Original jack, spare, tire tool, keys and owners manual. Recent service including new belts, hoses, fluids, filters, tune up & brake service, The Cougar looks, runs & drives great. It accelerates briskly and is still quite tight when going down the road at 70 mph. The XR-7 is a remarkably good driver quality example that can be driven anywhere with pride of ownership. It always garners compliments and receives..."thumbs up"! Please have your funding in place prior to placing your bid. Thank you. Please consult with your spouse, therapist, pet or Magic 8-Ball, prior to placing your bid as I am not running a clinic for the confused. Thank you. You are bidding to purchase the Cougar, not to be the first to "look at it". Inspections are welcome and will be facillitated to the best of my ability prior to the auction concluding. If you are "new" to eBay, have zero or negative feedback, you will need to contact me by phone to discuss your intentions prior to placing your bid, otherwise, your bid will be cancelled. I have set a reasonable reserve for the Cougar. It is commensurate with the vehicle, the vehicles condition, the care it has received & the ownership history. Please DO NOT ask what my reserve is, as I WILL NOT disclose it. Bid what you can afford and are willing to pay for a driver quality, one owner, 1970 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible. An initial $1000.00 payment is due and payable within 24 hours of auction close VIA Pay Pal. The balance is then due and payable in full within 7 days thereafter, under condition and arrangement made between myself and the buyer. The balance is to then be paid VIA a legitimate bank to bank wire transfer. It provides a documented record of the transaction for both parties. Shipping and/or transportation is the sole responsibility of the buyer. The car is presently located in S.W. Florida. I am confident that the Cougar could be driven home to anywhere in America. If you elect to fly in and drive home, I will gladly pick you up from the S.W. Fla. Regional Airport in Ft. Myers. Trailered delivery is possible anywhere in the lower 48 states for $1000.00. (non-negotiable) I can also recommend a reputable shipper for you, if needed. I have represented the Cougar honestly & accurately. I am not a dealer or professional eBayer. I am a collector/hobbyist. Those that have purchased my specialty vehicles have consistantly had their expectations exceeded. eBay provides for only 24 pictures. I have selected pictures that best present a concise overview of the Cougar. If you would like any area specific pictures, simply request them. The key to a successful eBay experience for both parties is effective communication. I do require that the buyer establish contact with me by phone within 24 hrs. to further discuss arrangements. Buyers from the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia & New Zealand are welcome and encouraged to bid with confidence. I answer my phone quicker than I respond to e-mail, call me directly with any questions. If you wish to present a, "buy it now" offer, call me directly and PRESENT YOUR OFFER...DO NOT call and ask me..."what is the lowest that you'll take?" The astute buyer knows that the best investment in the collector market is an original "suvivor" example. Other than the repaint, radio & wheels, this IS a documented original vehicle. It is NOT a car that has changed hands countless times. It is an affordable classic that is ready for an ice cream run w/the grandkids, spin to the drive-in, weekend escape or just summer evening cruises. Or...if you're a "Cougar"...be on the prowl in this! ;-) Thanks for looking and good luck when you bid! Jeff 719.492.1234, c On Jul-15-12 at 20:45:47 PDT, seller added the following information: Addendum: The engine is the factory original 351, the carburator is a 2bbl., not a 4 and according to the records was rebuilt @ 95,209 miles, on 2/25/09.On Jul-16-12 at 11:42:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Apologies to all the genuine bidders, as unfortunately there are dirtbag elements that will bid an item solely to reveal a reserve and then retract their bid under dubious auspices. On Jul-19-12 at 04:14:26 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer inquiries regarding the front seats...they are in presentable condition. The driver seat lower bolster has a small separation from years of utilizing ones hand to assist in exiting the vehicle. The sheepskins are genuine and considerably more comfortable & cooler than the vinyl, pics can be forwarded. On Jul-20-12 at 04:45:42 PDT, seller added the following information: Upon closer inspection with the sheepskins entirely removed it appears that the front seats are actually leather. On Jul-20-12 at 11:09:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Over night, bid(s) were submitted by a 0% feedback eBayer. Early this morning, I e-mailed the prospective bidder asking that they contact me by phone within a specified time frame to discuss their intentions. I did this for as the listing clearly states, if one is new to eBay, has 0% feedback or a negative history rating, they need to do this PRIOR to placing their bid. A conversation helps to determine if one is in fact a legitimate bidder or a disingenuous kid who is utilizing a parents eBay account without permission. This individual has not replied in the ample time accorded and therefore, I have just cancelled their bid and blocked them from further bidding. These are simple and easy guidelines to abide by. If one chooses to disregard them, I'm left with no alternative but to cancel & block bidders. I'm a legitimate seller seeking a legitimate buyer. Thank you.
