Up for bids is this super clean 1961 Mercedes 220S sedan. If you've been in the market for a Mercedes Fintail you're probably used to seeing lots of worn out examples come up for sale on ebay. The utilitarian nature of the W111 sedans meant that people drove them regularly, it's rare to find one with a sunroof. The last W111 that I used daily had almost 700,000 miles on it! This sweet little sedan has been garaged and cared for, this is one that slipped through the cracks. The car sports a beautiful original interior, very nice original trim, large sunroof and an undercarriage that is truly impressive for a 45 year old car. The car has had one repaint in its original color of "Light blue", code Db3046. They did a pretty nice job with the repaint, it's not show quality but you can tell it was carefully dechromed and decently prepped. It's perfectly fine for a driver and presents well with good gloss and shine. The body is straight, the car has picked up a few little parking lot dings along the way but nothing major. 2 shallow rust spots on the front doors are the car's biggest flaw. The body and undercarriage of this car are super solid. , no problems. Panel fit is excellent, doors all close with a precise 'click'. Tires are radials with good tread. The chrome and trim on the car are really very nice, showing no problems with pitting or fading. Bumpers are true. Lights and signals all work as they should, lenses are in great shape with no cracks. All of the car's glass are original Sekurit branded pieces in excellent shape. The windshield is a Sigla piece marked "Made in Western Germany", it's also in great shape with no major wear. The weatherstripping on the car is all original and still soft, pliable, and in good shape. The trunk is really excellent, it's another indicator of just how solid this car is. Most W111 trunks pick up some surface rust under the mat, with more serious corrosion common in the left and right wells. You'll find this trunk to be totally solid and original, never repainted and just as nice as can be. These W111 trunks are deceptively large, with room enough for 4 golf bags The interior of this car is one of its strong points, as you can see from the photos it's extremely nice. MB-Tex never fails to amaze me with how well it holds up, these seats are over 45 years old and are still fantastic. The dash pad is in super condition with no splits or areas of pull back, pretty rare for this series. The wood trim in this interior is good with the exception of the lower windshield surround. It has some sun damage in this area and one small crack, the rest of the wood is nice.This car is being sold with lein sale papers and bill of sale.
