Vehicle Detail

1983 GMC K1500 Diesel 4X4 Pickup Truck 6.2 Diesel, auto 700R4, 4X4, 3.42 gears, Factory Posi Traction. AIR, PS, PB. Diesel means that everything is heavy duty on this truck, from the radiator to the brakes, but it still rides like a half ton truck. Unmolested, as original as any barn find as you are ever going to find. I just ran the vin through the internet, ebay is wrong about the vin ! Google the Vin Number, it is 100 % correct ! This was not a work truck ! Blue Plate Survivor special. It was one retired, old man’s dream. Like so many old guys in the 70’ and 80’s, when they retired, they bought themselves one last pickup truck. When I found this truck, the old man had already passed on, his son drove the truck once in a while but it was not a practical vehicle for him, living in the city. The truck still wears all of it’s original paint, except for the sections where it has worn thin, the roof, predominately. There is only one original paint, you cannot reproduce the circumstances that it took to preserve it that way, once it’s repainted in shiny new paint, a lot of sellers fail to document the ‘Before’ condition of the vehicle. With the exception of the running boards and the 80’s style, steel wheels, the truck is 100% unmodified ! Both item’s are period correct and probably dealer installed. Being a Northern Inland California Vehicle there is absolutely no rust on this truck, within the meaning of Cancerous Structural rust. Californian’s have a very different definition of rust then the rest of the nation. It would make a very good clean start to a show stopping truck, with its straight panels. The truck always starts right up, having owned a few of these before, this is probably one of the most powerful 6.2 NA Diesel Trucks I have ever owned and it would probably shame a few Gas powered trucks in ways of power and performance. It will actually break the tires lose on pavement and lays 50 feet of positraction induced twin rubber strips. I bought this truck for a purpose, it served me as my getaway vehicle, I live in the foothills, our property is located on a mountain. We had a fire years ago, let’s just say, that there comes a point of time, where escape becomes almost impossible with any 2 wheel drive vehicle. I never had to make that escape, with a lot of preventive measures put in place. With its automatic transmission and the automatic looking hubs, even my wife can drive this vehicle. Six month’s out of the year, this truck stays parked next to my house, fueled, ready to go. It is a very competent four wheel drive vehicle, even with street tires, this truck can climb the side of a mountain without missing a beat. I have no way of verifying the miles on this truck but I am very inclined to believe that the mileage is true, given the condition of the truck and the way all the components work on this truck. I attempt to use this truck several times per year, just to keep things moving but have to be quiet honest, in that sometimes several months pass before ever driving it. Due to lack of use, I noticed that the headlights failed to come on the other day, a new headlight switch is being ordered as we speak from Napa Auto parts and should be installed by the time you read this. The switch cost a whopping $ 12.99 Also the glow plug relay failed to work, and it also being replaced, it cost $ 25.29 What I am trying to say is, that you can walk into any parts store in America and buy parts for these trucks for very little money. Every other farm in America has one of these sitting out back, perhaps in a different condition, but parts supply is virtually unlimited. Also the after market industry has really stepped up and you can buy just about anything for these trucks. The truck does have factory Air-condition, it is currently not working, it was not a big concern to me, the GM air-conditon can easily be repaired for a reasonable cost. I gladly will welcome any third party, independent inspection service on this truck, on my property ! The pictures with the truck wet were taken to show all the small dents that have accumulated over the years and not to deceive anyone into thinking that this trucks paint still shines. The truck was also not detailed but rather shows its honest condition with dust in place. If you look at the trucks box, you can see that this truck never worked a day in its life. Please also note that the truck sits perfectly level at it’s stock ride height, without any sagging. Here is video of the truck driving; http://youtu.be/M6ux1P3XxOk http://youtu.be/M02QxEGN-S0 Hear the engine run in the second link. Sorry for the sound quality, the microphone in the little handheld camera picks up every little touch as a sound. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_C/K I am not giving this truck away and have no problem putting it away for another ten years, because I know, every time I need it, I just simply turn the key and drive away. In my opinion, half ton diesel trucks are the best of both worlds, you get heavy duty brakes, cooling and suspension but without the burden of a three quarter or one ton truck. Three quarter and one ton GM 4X4 trucks came with rock hard suspension and really short gearing. Unless you plan on running oversized tires or rock-climbing, they are completely useless at today’s fast paced freeway speeds. This truck, with it’s overdrive transmission and 3.42 gearing, you can actually drive on pavement. Being the Sierra Classic edition means, you have some amenties but no troublesome power-windows or power-doorlocks. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. This is a Reserve Auction. Don’t cry if you missed out by not placing your bid in a timely manner. The proper way to bid is by placing your maximum amount your are willing to bid and let eBay’s automated bidding system do the rest. Two identical amounts, the earlier bid wins ! $ 500 deposit due to the winning bidder within 24 hours after auctions end. Seven days to complete the entire transaction and pay for the truck. I will gladly work with any bidder but communication is very important. I will store the car free of charge, but this needs to be arranged before you place your bid, not after. All shipping charges to be paid by the buyer. If you have less then five feedbacks, contact me before you place your bid. If you are not located within the United States contact me prior to bidding. By placing your bid you are legally entering into an agreement to purchase this vehicle, it cost’s money to list a vehicle on ebay. On Jun-13-12 at 08:36:45 PDT, seller added the following information: I have uploaded high resolution detailed pictures on Flicker, please follow the link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45129707@N02/7183659197/ Also had a question about the hitch, it appears to be a period correct ( 80’s ) style, 2 inch receiver hitch. No weight rating markings found but I would estimate that style hitch to be rated at 3500 or 5000 lbs with a weight distributing hookup. This hitch appears to a direct fit for this truck with that bumper style. This vehicle was sold new at ‘Mel Rapton GMC’ the dealership still exists to this day in Sacramento, although there are now called ‘Mel Rapton Honda’ http://www.melraptonhonda.com Thought I would add that little piece of information, I have gotten lucky before and actually located staff members on my other Sacramento dealer sold vehicle, if you are really nostalgic, you could possibly request service records from this vehicle, since I do have documentation, showing the original owners name and address. I am somewhat surprised that not many people are taking advantage of eBay’s affiliate Vehicle Inspection Service ? In my opinion it offers an excellent value and independent third value analysis of a vehicle, especially when purchasing across state lines. I would like to stress again, to please ask questions before placing your bid since I am making myself available till the auction ends, to answer any concerns or questions that may arise. Also had a foreign bidder early on, that failed to make contact at all. Let me reiterate, if you are not located in the United States or have a representative standing by to handle the transaction on your behalf you must contact me prior to placing your bid !
