1973 Mercedes-Benz 220d 4 door sedan, 4 cyl, diesel, for sale by original owner. Needs engine rebuilt. Not running. My dad bought my mom this car new in 1973 (original bill of sale included). It has been garaged ever since. Georgia car, so no worries with salty road & bad rust. There is minor surface rust in one spot on the right rear fender near the bumper. Body good, paint good, interior good. It was never used for business or a daily work commute, but rather for puttering around town and occasional trips from Atlanta to Savannah. Only one minor fender-bender during its whole life. The left front fender was replaced. It also has the odd dings here and there that cars tend to get over a 40 year span! Straight frame. VGC Toyo tires. It was driven regularly until 2011 when the engine gave out. We've had it to a Mercedes shop and a local garage and both say it needs a new engine. The original engine was replaced around 1995 with the current rebuilt engine. For instance, there is no compression on the #2 cylinder. #1 leaks 60%. Problem is cylinder head, rings, pistons, etc. Good brakes, AC works, good tires, good transmission. The only two problems that I know of are the bad engine and that the cassette player has not worked since the 1970s. All work on this car its whole life was done by MB Medics in Smyrna.
