Vehicle Detail
This is a 1959 Mercury Monterey 4 door sedan, an un-cut and un-molested survivor from another time. Powered by the Ford 383 MEL (Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln), this car is a true head turning cruiser. The car is complete, and runs well. The 383 is the original engine and provides plenty of power for moving this heavy car. Stopping is made easy with power brakes that hold true and don’t fade. The nose just tucks down, and the car comes to a brisk stop without pulling from side to side. The wrap around windshield and rear window provide great vision while driving and are free from defects, scratches, etc. All window regulators work smoothly and without issue. Side glass is equally as nice. All lights and electrical equipment work well. The horn works from the steering wheel and sounds great. The body is in great shape for being a 53 year old car; no rust, and minor flaws. It’s a Texas car, so no road salt or rust issues underneath. It appears to have the original paint on the car that has survived well, with very few minor door dings with which to contend. Body panel fit is great, and all doors are well aligned and solid. It has been garage-kept since family ownership, and from the looks of it, for its entire life. All rubber seals are intact and work well keeping both wind and rain out of the car. All chrome is on the car and in good shape. The interior is great as well; all original. The driver’s seat shows its age with a “wear spot” in the center of the seat where the fabric is getting thin. All other sections of the seats are without issue. The front seat is mechanically sound and adjusts freely. The dash cover is intact, but will need some attention as the cover is pulling away from its tie downs under the trim. The carpet and floor covers are original and are intact. The AM radio still works, and sounds great…for an AM radio. The engine compartment is clean, and the only mechanical issue I have with the car is a leak from the power steering system. I think a simple hose replacement will cure this ill. The odometer reads just over 85,000 miles. I have no way of telling if it has turned over or not, but from the looks of the car, and the little it’s been driven lately, I’d guess those are original miles. The tires are not new, but are in great shape with a lot of tread left. The exhaust system is intact, sounds great and has no leaks. This Mercury gathers the attention. It’s always one-of-a-kind at the local show and shines, and I always get a few “thumbs up” from the car guys and gals on the road. One might expect to see President Eisenhower climbing in and out of this car. Please, feel free to email me with questions about this car. Winning bid will pay for shipping.
