The history of these cars began in 1966 when Ford released a limited number of the Shelby GT-H models, which was only available through Hertz car rentals. Many of these were known to have been rented for the day, taken to the racetrack, where they would win their class, and returned the next day to the rental agency. Fast forward 40 years and Shelby once again produced a limited number of rental only Shelby GTH's. The public demand was so great to be able to purchase these cars retail, that Shelby produced a limited number in 2007 and 2008 for public purchase known as the Shelby GT. During the 2008 model year, 219 California only models, known as the Shelby GT-C in Grabber Orange paint with silver Lemans racing stripes were produced making these very rare and ultimately very collectible automobiles. When interviewed recently, Carroll Shelby said that his favorite Shelby Mustang was the 1966 Shelby GT because it featured lightweight and a high revving small block, which handled up to European car standards. The current Shelby GT is the modern version of that car. Shelby further ensured the collectability of this car by personally signing the passenger visor in silver marker (see photos). This 2008 Shelby GT-C for sale is in like new condition. This Shelby is number 39 of 219 built. There have been no accidents, no paintwork, no door dings, and no wheel marks. It has never been smoked in. It has never been tracked or abused in any way. It has been proudly displayed in our museum-showroom in Southern California as a modern classic alongside classic Shelby Cobras, Corvette roadsters, and Porsches. It's lightweight, the Hurst five-speed short throw shifter, the perfect exhaust note and the Shelby performance lowered suspension; make it a true delight to drive. This Shelby has only been serviced by the Shelby technician at our local Ford dealership. It has had regularly scheduled detailing by the best in the business. We would like to disclose that all of the vinyl racing stripes on the Shelby GT's showed some small spots over time, and ours was no different, showing some minor spots on the hood stripes on close inspection. Otherwise the car is like new and we believe it unlikely that there is a nicer, cleaner, better maintained example anywhere. It had its most recent oil change and service in February. A brand-new premium AAA battery was recently put in. This car is ready to go. The Grabber Orange Color is absolutely gorgeous and turns heads everywhere. All the original factory documentation is included with the car. We have the original window sticker from both Ford and Shelby America. We have the original unopened owner's manual still in plastic and the Shelby America supplemental manual, and original glove box hanging tag, and both keys. It has a clean Carfax. To further add value to this unique classic collectible, we purchased Ford’s best factory extended service plan, the Premium CARE Plan for this car prior to its initial warranty period coming to an end. This Premium Care plan extends the factory warranty until 84 months (July 19, 2015) or 60,000 miles whichever comes first. This extended service plan is transferable to the new owner.
