Vehicle Detail

WARNING! This may be the most honest and accurate ad you ever read, so be prepared to exhale a refreshing sigh upon conclusion (that’s for you, Eddie!). FYI...there is no such thing as a “numbers matching” AMX...they weren’t built that way; and the dash plates, while production year correct, were randomly applied in no specific order and can be purchased to this day. Remember all that when you look at other ads just to be “apples-to-apples”. Fresh out of proper winter storage and running strong is my 1968 AMC (American Motors Corporation) AMX (American Motors eXperimental) 390. This original 390 V8/4 was built on Thursday, March 21, 1968 (engine tag) and the car was assembled during the first 2 weeks of April+/- 1968 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It was then delivered to the original owner in Arizona where it stayed until 1990 +/-. It was then acquired and transferred to Ohio by the 2nd owner where it underwent a complete restoration. I acquired this car in February of 2006 and had her transported via enclosed trailer to my winter storage area. Many NOS and OEM items have been added or acquired since 2006. The odometer currently reads 33,842 miles and is assumed to be 133,822 miles. She is always garage kept, dry-day-only driven and properly stored each winter. The entire scope of the work on this car from 1990 +/- to date is as follows: INTERIOR: All correct style carpet and floor mats, headliner and sail panels. New and correct trunk mat, jack, airless spare tire, inflater, spare tire hold down hardware and trunk light. BRAKES: Front and rear brakes were totally redone with new emergency cables, hoses, and stainless steel lines. Rebuilt front calipers, brake booster, master cylinder & wheel cylinders. SUSPENSION: Front has rebuilt trunnions. All new rubber bushings, links, tie rod ends, springs & shocks. New rear springs & shocks. 4 recent option correct tires (from Coker Tire). This car has the Go-Pac option that features red line wide oval tires, 3:15 "Twin-Grip" rear (posi-traction), traction bars/torsion links and heavy-duty front and rear suspension components. ENGINE: The original 390 engine was professionally rebuilt in 2002 to use today's leaded gas (premium), including new pistons, rings, all new bearings, cam, lifter, hardened seats and timing gear set. Also installed a new water pump, fuel pump, coil, electric choke, Pertronix ignition, rebuilt starter, alternator and carburetor. A complete new dual exhaust system with welded seams, new hangers and chrome tips. EXTERIOR: The paint is more than 15 years old and is still very nice for its age with some flaws starting to show to the trained eye. The color is Caravelle Blue with white stripes and is correct/factory authentic for this 1968 AMX. It still has a very high gloss to it. The body is solid and was never a rust bucket. The undercarriage and engine compartment is extremely nice and was correctly painted to match the top of car. Vanity plates (68AMX390) were acquired from NYSDMV. This is a genuine, 1-restoration, unmodified 1968 AMC AMX 390 that includes the "Go-Package" option, factory air conditioning (removed & saved) and the BorgWarner model M-12 transmission. It is 1 of only 6725 ever built, 1 of only 967 as originally optioned and 1 of probably 100 +/- that's also this color combination (no records were kept by AMC in regards to color). The engine and transmission only have 3600 +/- miles on them since restoration. It always has been garage kept year around, properly stored in the winters and driven rarely and on dry days. I am in a constant mode of restoration and preservation on this beautiful example of All-American muscle car history. Click on (or copy and paste into your browser) the link to see several pictures https://picasaweb.google.com/SHFontheroad/My1968AmericanMotorsAMCAMX390?authkey=Gv1sRgCImk4OHE9ZWxMA# I also have a collection of AMC/AMX memorabilia, such as original books, manuals, magazines, magazine ads & articles die cast cars in various scales, etc. in addition to several expensive NOS parts collected for "that next restoration". I am reluctantly offering to sell to fund expanding my business without having to borrow, as the car is clear with no liens or encumbrance. There is no title due to age; there is a transferable registration to accompany a bill of sale. This car is currently insured with American Collectors Insurance, Inc. for USD$37,000.00 replacement value. Recent checked NADA between put it between USD$31,000.00 and USD$43,000.00. I have priced it accordingly for a bargain sale and in keeping with what the current market is doing. The mentioned memorabilia and parts are not included in the sale price but could be purchased in addition to the car. This car is sold "as is/where is" with no expressed, written or implied guarantees and/or warranties. Shipping and/or transport is the responsibility of the buyer, although I would consider delivering within a reasonable driving distance on my plates after receiving cleared payment in full. No BS or joyrides will be tolerated. I bought this car with confidence many years ago without seeing it in person or driving it and never had any regrets, as it's rare to find one in this condition that hasn't been modified or trashed. This link will tell you all you may ever want to know about the famed history of the AMC AMX: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_AMX To be fair to all this will remain an auction format to the end and I will not disclose my reserve or set a buy it now price. This vehicle will also be offered for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction should it be sold prior.
