Vehicle Detail

1955/1956 Mercedes Benz 190SL convertible coupe This car actually belongs to a friend of mine and they have asked me to help them with selling it. From all my research this car is an extremely rare find and could be valued at $50,000 to $90,000. The car is a great driver for someone who wants to truly enjoy a collectable car by actually driving it. It is my intention to make every effort to accurately list this car so the new owner will not get any surprises. First and foremost, if you are serious about this car I would highly recommend you come see it in person before the auction ends. The car is currently in running order and has been well maintained and driven to keep it in this shape. Rather than write a long winded ad I figure I will list out everything I know about the car good and bad. · This car is a great driver! It is ready to jump in and drive! Buy it today and drive it now! It’s going to be hard to find a 57 year old car in running order, you won’t be disappointed. · This car turns heads everywhere it goes. If you want attention this is the car for you, it impresses people on the outside, then they look in at the dash and attention to detail inside and are impressed all over again. Next you open the hood and it’s just as impressive, this is a looker. · Although I wouldn’t say this car is a perfect show car it would hold its own and any local show cruise or meet, it is clean! · If you tried to take a 55 SL and restore it to this condition you would be in a lot deeper financial investment than this car with your finished project. · Car is believed to be a 55 or 56, there is some confusion regarding this due to the Vin and the original title don’t agree on the year. Due to this issue the car was recently given a KS VIN (as a 1955) and is 100% legitimate. The original Vin Plates were left intact. We have all supporting documents for reference, if a potential buyer would like to see any of this information please contact me using the ask question button and include your email. o Here is the owner’s statement regarding this issue. “My title indicates that the car is a 1955. However, according to information found on the internet, the original VIN on this car is the chassis number, and the chassis number begins with the year of production in reverse. The original VIN of this car was 6503382, which would indicate that the car is a 1956. The guy who did the restoration also believed the car to actually be a 1956. When the car was re-titled in Kansas, it was given a new VIN.” · Mileage on car is not 100% sure but is believed to correct. o Here is the owner’s statement regarding this issue. “The odometer reading is 61,916. Whether this is an accurate reading, I have no way of knowing. My estimate of the number of miles since the engine was rebuild, however, is about 1,000 – 2,000.” · Car was restored 1992 o Here is the owner’s statement regarding this issue. “I purchased the car in Pensacola, FL, around 1982. I have never driven it very much – just around the local area occasionally to keep in good running order. In 1988, I moved to Atlanta and there I turned the car over to a restorer. Its restoration was completed in 1992. Since its restoration, the car has been driven about once a month – again just enough to keep it in good driving order. Of course, it has always been garaged during the almost 30 or so years I have owned the car. 1955/1056 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. Completely restored. Blue-gray. Includes soft top and hard top. Beige leather interior. All chrome redone. New floors, carpeting, tires, headlights, tail lights. New radio and clock. Engine rebuilt. Runs beautifully. I have receipts for all the parts purchased for the car during the restoration process.” · This car also includes the hardtop, see pictures. This top has never been on the car since it was purchased from what I know, it is assumed it fits the car but I don’t know if it requires any special hardware to install it. Here are some known issues with the car · Paint has blemishes, they are almost like small bubbling, I don’t think it is rust due to some of them appear on panels that are known to be aluminum on the car. I have included photos of some of these. · Carburetors are not original equipment for this car but they do seem to run well on it. · Car is missing lower chrome part on lower rocker behind front wheels. I don’t know if this was a option but its not there. There does appear to be holes to mount it. · Rear trunk lock seems to be messed with. On the underside of trunk it looks like it possibly was retro fitted or something. It does function but doesn’t look stock, I don’t know what stock looks like. See picture. · Most of the chrome is pretty nice, it does have some small pitting here and there but the worst seems to be the windshield chrome but I would still consider it nice driver condition. · The seats are not original. The seats that are in the car seem to set higher than they should. I am a 6’ tall guy and it does present me a bit of a issue getting in the car. Once I am in I am OK but if this were going to be my car I would source some different seats. They are comfortable and a shorter person should not have any issue with them. · o Here is the owners statement on issues “There are a couple of things about the car that are less than ideal. The paint job look great until upon close inspection, one can see some small spots where the paint seems to have lifted from the metal. There is no peeling or flaking, but the car would probably need to be repainted if an owner planned to show it competitively. Second, the seats appear not be Mercedes seats. They seem to sit a bit higher than they should.” I have tried to describe this car to my best and tell everything good and bad about it. If you have any more information on the car or see something is incorrect please feel free to ask. If you are a serious buy I strongly recommend you contact me to set up a viewing and test drive. The car is located a half hour from the Wichita KS airport. TERMS OF SALE 1. On Apr-10-12 at 06:46:46 PDT, seller added the following information: A few questions that have been asked and answered for the car. - I am still confused about the numbers. Do you have the original papers, documents or data sheet for this car? Do all the original numbers ( chassis, engine .... ) match? Answer: We don't have the original manufacturing papers and don't know if they even had papers like this in those days. I don't know where these numbers are located or if they exist therefore I can verify they match. If someone can tell me where to look and if they should match, then I will look. - Is the engine as shown in the pictures the original engine? Answer: We think so but have no way of verifying if it is. - Any rust spots any place, trunk, floors ...? Answer: No we don't think so. I looked at the car on the hoist and I saw no rust on the floors or trunk. From the top side I find no evidence there is any rust except there is some minor rust on one of the rear fenders which is pictured on Ebay. - Why the colors are so different? Blue with Red hup caps? Has the car been painted in a non-original color? Answer: We believe the gray, not blue, color is an original color. During restoration this car was repainted and hub caps were painted red. - Is the title CLEAN with no accidents/salvage and also clear? Answer: Yes - Any original tools, manuals..., jack? Answer: Yes the jack and spare tire are original as far a we know. There are a number of repair manuals but I don't believe any are original. - Do you have the original SOLEX carburetors? Answer: No - Does the car leak oil? Answer: The car had a valve cover that was leaking pretty bad, this led to the underside of the car having oil on it. The valve cover has been repaired but we have not yet power washed it off. We think that was the main leak but can’t guarantee there aren’t other small leaks, the car is 57 years old. - What Does the under carriage look like? Answer: Generally it looks good (has oil see above) We are trying to get it on a lift before auctions end to get photos but can’t promise we can make that happen. - Do we have a Buy it now price? Answer: This question has been asked by quite a few people. We are considering this option but with all the interest we are a little inclined to let the auction run. Never hurts to ask.
