Vehicle Detail

Just finished my latest project car and am ready for my next one (you can see it in the background of the first pic - a 1998 yellow BMW M3 coupe), so this beautifully restored classic is now for sale. I’m retired and do this as a hobby. Bought this one in August 2010 from a private seller in Tennessee. This car is what I call a "Trustee" or "Legacy" car. It's one that has had several different owners since its original delivery (I have the original British Leyland "Passport To Service" that came with the new car delivery; the car still has its original serial number engine & is finished as original - British Racing Green). But what sets it apart is that there is a common thread among all these owners that can be traced and documented. By that I mean, every once in awhile you'll find a car that each of its owners treated almost as if it were being held in trust or preserved for its next owner, restored, refurbished, maintained & upgraded as required during each owner's time with the car. I have pictures and paperwork (including most all of the key shop receipts going back to the mid-1990s) which verify that prior owners did a total frame-off restoration in 1994, including an engine re-build, installed a new transmission in 2002, and a top-end overhaul (including upgraded valve guides), gas tank, stainless steel exhaust, Coker Redline tires (still like-new) in 2007. The seats have been re-covered since the 1994 restoration and are still in nearly perfect condition. When I purchased the car, the frame and body required virtually nothing – it was still as straight and rust-free as the day the frame-off was completed …the paint is still beautiful,as you can see from the pictures; the basic engine needed nothing, other than a new battery to get it running…poorly. New carburetors, ignition system, tune-up & valve adjustment were needed to fix that – compressions were then found to be in the 130s, with no leak-down on any of the cylinders. The car simply hadn’t been driven enough over the past 15 years – maybe 15,000 miles in total, and hardly at all in the several years prior to my purchase – it’d pretty much been a “garage queen” \ occasional weekend driver for its last two owners, which was great for the frame and body panels & paint finish, but not so much for lots of the mechanicals. So it did need a fair amount of miscellaneous work to get the car ready for what it needs now – regular, “enthusiastic” driving. The main work I did personally: Weber downdraft carburetors - totally inappropriate and poor performing - were replaced with re-built & polished original Stromberg side-drafts, along with powder-coated intake manifold & air cleaner housing, fuel pump re-built, flushed fuel system & installed new fuel hoses & filter, oil pump "blueprinted" (pressure now 100psi at start and not less than 60-75 when hot and cruising), new stainless steel braided oil gauge line new spin-on oil filter housing, new cast aluminum rocker\valve cover new electronic ignition \ spark plug wires \ spark plugs \ coil, battery, new hood release cable and 2nd emergency hood release cable, new tachometer cable, new brakes\ stainless steel braided brake lines, brake servo & master cylinder re-built, clutch master & slave cylinders re-built, new stainless steel braided lines, new water pump \ hoses & fittings \ heater valve, drive belt, new ABS radiator shroud, flushed transmission gearbox & re-filled, overdrive solenoid re-built, overdrive filters & sump magnets replaced - overdrive works perfectly, installed lightweight starter motor, steering column overhauled, accelerator linkage overhauled, dampers re-built, rubber suspension bushings replaced as required, powder coated exhaust manifold, all new dash lighting, new air ducts, new voltage regulator, new under-dash ABS shrouds, refreshed engine compartment paint as required, replaced or repaired numerous miscellaneous parts & fittings. The car comes complete with restored factory hard top and all mounting hardware - the hard top alone is valued at $1200-$1,500; also included are two tonneau covers – full cockpit (black) and another just for folded top (tan). Lots of spare parts and Triumph shop manual for the do-it-yourself bidders come with the car as well. I can deliver on a trailer within the Southeastern USA…but you will have to pay the cost of the trailer rental (from U-Haul) and gasoline to\from delivery point. No CODs though - $750.00 deposit within 24-hours of successful bid, via PayPal; balance due in cash or bank\cashier’s check within 7 days of winning bid and prior to my delivering the car. Feel free to call me and ask any questions; you are also welcome to come to Greenville, South Carolina to see & drive the car anytime during the auction. Rich: 404-229-9755
