Vehicle Detail

CAVEAT EMPTOR! (LET THE BUYER BEWARE)! A wise person keeps this phrase in mind when purchasing a vehicle on the internet - PARTICULARLY IF YOU CANNOT INSPECT THE THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO PURCHASE! An additional concern to keep in mind when purchasing a classic car is to realize that the seller may not be particularly knowledgeable about that particular vehicle. BOTTOM LINE - YOUR BUYING EXPERIENCE DEPENDS ON THE INTEGRITY OF THE SELLER (please see my my EBAY ratings). My hobby is refurbishing 560 SL's. This is the 3rd vehicle offered on my EBAY and a total of 4 sold to satisfied buyers. My goal is to offer a vehicle that I would want to purchase for my own use. To that end all mechanical and cosmetic issues are addressed and repaired as necessary. I offer a vehicle that is ready to drive as is, with "no surprises". I am a perfectionist by nature so I pay attention to those "niggling details" that so many dealers and private owner ignore. Any remaining cosmetic or mechanical issues are readily disclosed. NOW-ABOUT THE 560 SL- In the Grand Scheme of Sports car History written 50 years froim now, these late 560 SL's will be written in as the last of the truly elegant sports grand touring cars from Mercedes Benz. These cars are simpl;y stunning- and while new cars are still wonderful by today's standards they are destined to the junk yard when their computer software systems are no longer supported by the factory. These superbly crafted motor cars will continue to be road worthty due to their pure mechanical simplicity. A guy with a set of tools and a manual will always be around to work on these gems from MB, much the same way cars from the 20's and 30's are rebuilt and maintained so simply today. The paint on these cars from that era will out last the new paints ten too one. If you are looking for a true fun, weekend car with collector appeal one of these is a great way to go! It is my firm belief that these Mercedes SL's from the late 80's will become some of the most sought after collectors items in the not too distant future. These cars are elegant to look at and as pleasurable to drive as any new car. VEHICLE HISTORY: I purchased this vehicle online from a gentleman in Atlanta. His father had recently passed away and he had no desire to keep the vehicle. His father kept meticulous service records from 7-18-96 until 12-05-09. Apparently the car was not driven much until I purchased it in Feb 2011. The last oil change was @ 121,070, with a reminder that next oil change was due @ 124,070. The vehicle is in EXCELLENT condition and has been very cared for. Paint is Immaculate. Mechanically perfect. Tires are good and wheels are excellent. Original carpets are in excellent condition as are original floor mats. Sort top and hard top are also in excellent condition. I have replaced the drivers side leather because of a bit of wear on the bolster. I have also replaced the front grill as there was a minor "ding". I have had the steerting wheel repalced as the leather on the original was deteriorated. All of the guages, lights, etc. are functional with the exception of the analog clock( I have been unable to find a replacement). The original Becker radio has been relaced with a new am/fm cd unit. I do not know why the Becker radios have not been more durable, but this is the case on may of the 560 SL's I have purhcased. Additionallly I have added a cupholder (who wants to drive a car without a cupholder?!) Apparently the odometer was damaged during shipment ( this has been a problem on several of the 560's I have had shipped). Nevertheless the mileage is very close to accurate as there is no evidence of odometer turnback on the report from Experian, and I have driven the car very little since purchase. the AutoCheck Score from Experian is 71 (with similar vehicle scores between 21-43). As you will note from the photos this vehicle is eqipped with the optional factory rear seats, which are very handy in hauling around small children. Seat belts are properly installed. This vehicle starts without hesitation, drives a straight line down the road and the steering is tight. It is a real pleasure to drive! The wood tirm is excellent without defect. The original owner's manual and other factory documents are available and will be shipped with the vehicle including all service records, including those obtained since owning the vehicle. One important factor to keep in mind when purchasing a MB 560 SL is that the mileage on the vehicle is MUCH LESS IMPORTANT than how the vehicle was maintained. I have purchased low mileage vehicles which were basically "parts cars", while many of my vehicles with upwards of 140,000 miles and are in pristine condition. All of the information available indicates that the engine and tranmission are "bullet proof" and good for 500,000 miles before any major sevice is needed. This is an excellent vehicle and should hold it's value for many, many years. My EBAY ratings depend on your satisfaction!
