Up for sale 2001 Volkswagen Passat , black , pretty much loaded - leather and heated seats , 6 airbags , power windows and locks , electric sunroof , computer , etc. We own this car almost a year and never had any problems , the previous owners purchased new from the VW Dealer ( Los Angeles area ) in year 2000 , there was some problems with the engine when the car had 66k miles so the whole engine was replaced by VW Authorized Service ( in 2008 - please see pictures ) - so the engine itself has only 38k miles and still have plenty of life left ( runs like new - no leaks or clicking ) . When we purchased this car in last Summer , there was a problem with the transmission - the reverse gear has a tricky way to work , and not in 100% - When the car is ''cold'' ( in the morning i.e. ) the reverse works great , when it's wormed up - you need to be careful because may suddenly ''jump'' onto the gear or can move slowly and not respond after a couple seconds , so than you need to put it on D ( drive ) and just drive few inches forward and on the reverse again . So- there is a problem with the reverse gear ( all other gears shifts and works smooth - and there are no noises when you putting on reverse , just sometimes it won't respond ) , and we meant to fix it , but month after month - we just got used to it , the problem didn't progressed ( so the gear box or reverse problem was never getting worse during the last 10k miles ) so we just had to remember to not park on the hill when we'll to be forced to use the reverse - otherwise there was no major issue with parking in the front of the house/appt or shopping centers or wherever . Th problem exist - and this is actually the biggest one with this car , so we highly recommend for the bidders to set up an appointment to see and maybe test drive the car ( if desired ) and we will show you what we meant and how it works and how we using it . You can drive like we did or you can put another couple thousands $$ and fix the problem - just wanted to be clear , why the car is selling as-is , with no reserve ( please do not ask for a buy-it-now price , because we will just wait for the end of the auction - and the highest bidder will take it ) . The black paint developed ''California Sun Disease'' so the shine is disappearing from some elements ( whiten spots ) . Right side - both doors have light scratches and dents , due to some minor collision ( made by previous owners ) - please see pictures and/or just come and inspect by yourself . The damage does not effect opening the doors or functionality of the car . Left front tire had some problems recently , so we decided not adding any money to it ( wouldn't increase the value anyhow :) ) just couple weeks ago we changed the spare tire ( full size ) and the original fourth aluminum wheel is in the trunk - waiting for a new tire - purchased by the new owner hopefully :) . The front leather seats are worn even with some hole in the driver seat - that we were using color matching good quality seat covers ( on the front only - please see pictures ) . Right side back passenger window does not lift ( you can hear the window engine working , but the glass is steady - not moving down or up , we never cared to fix it neither ) .Overall - technical condition of this car I'm so positive about , that I would leave for cross-country tomorrow without any doubts or special preparations . It looks like it looks , and the reverse gear issue - we just found our way around it , could be fixed , could be driven like that .
