I have my Grandmas 1979 Subru Brat. Grandma Nielson bought this car new in 1979 and drove it untill the late 80s when she died leaving it to my dad Terry at that time. My dad had a hard time with the death and did not drive the car again untill early 2004 when he pulled it from the garage and sent it to the shop to have the car looked over and have anything needing fixed fixed! He drove the car only for a short time before he lost his leg to Cancer on late 2005, and the car again was put back into the garage and has not been drivin since. I have always asked my father way dont you take the car out? I would drive you. He would tell me naaw and it would just stay there. In January I came to the house to put some pellets in the garage and saw the car there, so I asked him if I could go out and start the car and fiddle with it. He finally said yes and so I was on a mad dash out to the garage to make this car live. I open the door on the car to pop the hood and the door chime came on, I thought huummm no way this battery is good. So after cheacking the oil and water i jumped back in pushed the accelerator 3 or four times turned the key and It fired right off!!! No smoke nothing just purred like a kitten. Well I could not wait to drive this thing so I pulled it out washed the dust off the windows so I could see and took off. I was amazed the car did not shimmy or shake, breakes where perfect and the heat came right on. ( All though) It smelled like grandmas closet. So I drove and drove not even a hickup on this little car just purfect. I pulled over to try the 4x4 and it went right in no noise no clicking nothing. When I arrived home my dad told me put in in the garage, i asked him at that time "dad why dont you just sell the car? ) He told me to put it away and did not want to talk about it after that. I spoke with mom later and she told me that it brought too many memeries of his mom and that it was hard enough to deal with his leg being gone, and now all these new feelings. So I left it alone but from time to time I tryed to talk with my father about letting go of those memeries and move on with new ones. And I know my folks need the money to get cought up on bills. So finnally on Monday my father called said come get the car and sell it for us. And so hear we are. So I proudly present one: 1979 Subaru Brat 4x4 with 70000 exempt miles. On the out side the paint looks great!!!! no major scatches or dents or fading. It does have two rust marks on the lower fender about the size on 1/2 dollor coin. See in pictures provided. On the passager side it has a rock chip with some rust. smaller than a dime. On the back side driver side it has a dent in the bumper. Other than that it looks good to me. The canopy is original and has the Subru mathing Vin plate. Still has the carpet on the back with the two passager riding seats all purfect. On the inside all items function as they should. From the heat to the lights blinkers ect. carpet is near purfect and the seats flawless. The door panels are great too exept the passager side has patch where my Grandpas are rested. The radio works great the dash has fine has small crack up by winshield. All the glass is good. Under the hood the engine looks great no noises on the motor area of concern. Still has original jack and tools. It has some rust near batt area not major but its there. Tires are fine and the spare is in it too. I can not fined nothing major with this item.
