1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, 5 speed, 4 cylinder engine,cold a/c, cloth interior Bought car with blown engine, common problem with this eninge, original timing chain jumps time because original gears are plastic Replace engine with salvage yard engine, lucky I chose an engine that had been re-manufactured, it has those heat tabs that are glued to the freeze plugs, Checked the timing gears they are steel not plastic Installed engine with new clutch, pressure plate, hydraulic slave cylinder and master cylinder Replaced the 15" tires and steel wheel with Z24 wheels and new tires Painted the car, it was ugly green, changed to black Replaced the factory blown speakers with Sony speakers from Walmart Checked the brakes, appeared to be about 50% or more, the only reason I did not replace ABS light is on, checked with scanner, no current or stored codes, cleared but light will come right back on.???? Part of the dash has a hole at the windshield another common problem with this model car, there are a panels available on E-bay for around $130.00 I fixed the car with a few extras since my son was supposed to dry back and fourth to college to save gas. Changed college car is not needed now. Time to sell.
