Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on one 1981 Honda CM400C "Custom" motorcycle in excellent used condition. I purchased this bike with the engine out of the frame; the previous owner was in the process of doing a complete restoration on the bike for his daughter, but wound up losing interest and decided to go with a different bike for her. Since I took the bike, I have completely rebuilt the carburetors, installed new side cover gaskets on both sides of the engine, new oil filter and gasket, rebuilt the front brake caliper with brand new pistons, seals, and brake pads, rebuilt the master cylinder, installed a new chain, new rear drum brakes, and put the bike back together, with a fresh new battery. The tank was cleaned, but was already in pretty good shape. The engine runs very well, and pulls strongly and shifts smoothly. The tires are new. The only problems I had are as follows: 1.)There is a small dent in the tank. 2.) Although I rebuilt both the front master cylinder and the caliper, I cannot get the system to pressurize- it may be that there is air trapped in the line that I am not properly getting out, but I think that the master cylinder may need to be replaced. The caliper looked really good (check the pictures); the new pistons went in perfectly. I clamped the brake line just in front of the master cylinder, but was not able to build pressure. Therefor, I believe that the bike needs a new master cylinder (about $175.00). You would have the new rebuild kit in the present master cylinder for future spares needed. 3.) The oil light stays on; I believe this is due to a faulty oil pressure sending switch, located on the right side under the engine cover. The oil pump was fine, and the bike runs well and is getting oil just fine. Replacing the sending switch is about a half hour job that will require removing the right side engine cover to access the sending switch. It can be done on the bike's next oil change, and will also require a new side cover gasket to finish the job. Not a big deal- the bike's running just fine. This is a great little cruiser that has plenty of power for its size; it handles very nicely, and is a very smooth performing motorcycle. The bike comes with a set of front fork seals and cover boots; I was going to install them but the seals were fine, and did not need replacing. The bike is also set up with a very nice aftermarket "KG" rear cargo rack, and a custom Mustang seat that's very comfortable. Overall, this is an excellent bike that needs very little to get it perfect. Nevertheless, this motorcycle is being sold as-is with no warranties expressed or implied. Feel free to ask any questions you may have; I'll do my best to get back to you promptly. Winning bidder is responsible for all arrangement and costs of shipping; I will help get the bike loaded with the shipper of your choice. I would like the bike to be shipped within two weeks of auction's close. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
