Vehicle Detail
CAVEAT EMPTOR! (Let the buyer beware)! A wise person keeps this phrase in mind when purchasing a vehicle on the internet-PARTICULARLY IF YOU CANNOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO PURCHASE! An additional concern to keep in mind when purchasing a classic car is to realize that the seller may not be particularly knowledgeable about that particular vehicle. BOTTOM LINE- YOUR BUYING EXPERIENCE DEPENDS ON THE INTEGRITY OF THE SELLER (please seemy EBAY ratings). My hobby is refurbishing 560 SL's. All mechanical and cosmetic issues are addressed and repaired as necessary. My goal is to offer a vehicle that is ready to drive as is, with "no surprises". I am a perfectionist by nature so I pay particular attention to those "niggling" details that so many dealers and private owners tend to ignore. Any remaining cosmetic or mechanical issues are readily disclosed. ABOUT THE 560 SL - In the Grand Scheme of Sports Car History written 50 years from now, these late 80's 560SL's will be written in as the last of the truly elegant sports grand touring cars from Mercedes Benz. These cars are simply stunning- and while new cars are still wonderful by today's standards they are all destined to the junk yards when their computer software systems are no longer supported by the factory. These superbly crafted motorcars will continue to be roadworthy due to their pure mechanical simplicity. A guy with a a good set of tools and a manual will always be around to work on these gems from MB, much the same way cars from the 20's and 30's are rebuilt and maintained so simply today. The paint on these cars from that era will outlast the new paints ten to one. If you are looking for a true fun, weekend car with collector appeal one of these fine cars is a great way to go. It is my firm belief that these Mercedes SL's from the late 80's will become some of the most sought after collectors items in the not too distant future. These cars are elegant to look at and as pleasurable to drive as any new car. VEHICLE HISTORY- I purchased this vehicle online from a dealer in Tyler, Tex. I drove the car to Tulsa with absolutely no problems! There are early dealer service records but unfortunately no complete records. I do have records of all service and repairs performed since I purchased the vehicle. THE VEHICLE: Exterior is fire engine red without flaw. The interior is a camel color and appears to be original (a sure sign this vehicle has been well cared for). The leather hides are unblemished and there is absolutely no cracking. The bolster on the driver's side shows very minimal wear (again a sign of originality). The dash is perfect and the burlwood is the best I have ever seen! All guages, lights, switches, are as new and function perfectly. The only function not operating is the cruise control, which I have chosen not to repair. Cold a/c, warm heat. Soft top and hard top are excellent. Tires have plenty of treadwear left and the wheels are totally unblemished. Engine and transmission perform flawlessly. It is smooth and quiet and floats down the road like a Mercedes should. The car starts right up and everything works exactly as it should. The car drives down the freeway staight as an arrow and the suspension is tight as a drum. The vehicle comes with all original factory literature, service receipts, convertible top tool, spare tire and all tools necessary. Also included is the original window sticker showing a price of $63,410.00! Car fax is clean. Expenses - I have spent over $4400.00 to bring this vehicle to correct condition. The winner of the auction will be most pleased!
