We are an older couple (almost 70) and have decided it’s time to sell our ‘baby’ and replace it with an ‘old people’s car’! No, we’re NOT going to get a BUICK but it appears a family sedan with room for the grandkids is in our immediate future! This is our 2005 BMW Z4 and it has 57,428 miles on it. Gas mileage typically runs on average around 28mpg for us but then we don’t flog the car or give it abusive driving. On a trip to Oregon last September we averaged about 32. We have 3 cars so this is not our ‘daily driver’ and as such it doesn’t suffer the wear and tear of a car used for that purpose. We have always used Pennzoil 5W30 Synthetic which is one of the BMW recommended oils for this caliber of car. I’ve removed the factory floor mats for photos so you could see the actual carpet condition and if you look at the lack of wear on the pedals you’ll see that we’ve pretty much only used this car for open road driving. This car has not experienced much in the way of stop and go ‘in-town’ use but rather is used for long adventures around the country with the top down enjoying the scenery and getting bugs in our teeth! Tires were replaced at 47,052 and the tire receipt and warranty go with the car. I’ve attached a photo of the right rear and left front tire showing the tread condition. All tires are worn about the same so I didn’t bother taking 4 pictures. The brakes were inspected when the new tires were put on and showed hardly any wear at all. I’ve also attached photos of the seat bolsters. That seems to be a photo that ‘car dealers’ conveniently leave out because that’s a part of the seat that takes a lot of wear and tear from sliding in and out of the car. Our car has neither cracks nor tears. On the photo of the driver’s side seat bolster there are a lot of circular reflections of dust spots from lens flare so it should be noted that those spots are lens dirt, NOT spots on the seats or door panel. The radio and CD player in this car have exceptional sound. I’m somewhat of an audiophile and have had cars with audio systems by Bose, JBL, and Harmon Kardon. To me, this one sounds better, especially the clean, deep bass. The trunk in this car seems rather large for the size of the car and we have been able to take a lot of multi-week road trips with an ample supply of clothes and cameras. The trunk room can be increased by turning two knobs which raise up a section of the trunk lid interior where the top would normally go when the top is down. The car has the “+1” factory oversized optional wheels, there are optional power seats on both sides and the driver’s seat has the additional optional “memory seat” with buttons for 3 different drivers. The car also has the optional power top. It has BMW’s most reliable engine ever, the 2.5L producing 184hp and has an automatic transmission with optional ‘slap’ shifter. BMW has been making the 2.5L engine for eons so all the bugs were worked out of it LOOOONG ago! If you’ll look at the photo of the exhaust pipes you’ll see no soot or deposits which show just how well this engine is tuned and running. This car was originally sold in Austin, TX before moving to Florida with us and so it’s never seen snow or road salt. NO RUST! It of course doesn’t get driven in the rain either unless we’re on a road trip and get stuck in it. The owner’s documentation package is complete and has a plethora of paperwork that came with the car as you can see in the pictures. The car also has an option to use your cell phone through the radio and has controls on the steering wheel to use it like that. We’ve personally never used this feature so I don’t know what the particulars are for setting it up. I just wanted to let you know that it’s there. This car has NOT been ‘detailed’ out nor has it had everything covered in ‘Armor-All’ to make it look pretty and shiny like the dealers do. You’re seeing it just like it is in ‘real life’ during our normal use. Of course the car shows a few signs of wear expected on a car of this age and mileage, but probably far less than most cars because of the type of driving it receives.
