Vehicle Detail

1967 Real 427/435 J56, N89, F41 Coupe Summary and Highlights: You are bidding on a beautiful 1967 427ci / 435 hp Elkhart blue tank stickered Corvette with owner history and highly desirable options. This is a real 435 HP / J56 Big Brake / F41 HD suspension / N89 Aluminum wheel / Sidepipe / F41 Race suspension / tinted windows / redline tire (along with all the normal options) car. Please do not confuse this with the myriad of “big block” cars that have mysteriously lost their tank stickers and owner histories – this car is 100% real. Unlike many other corvettes on ebay, this corvette doesn’t pretend to have its original engine – It was separated from the car in 1984. I have owned this car for many years and researched its history about 10 years ago. As such, the car comes complete with a Microsoft word document that provides a comprehensive history including previous owner names, phone numbers, and copies of the previous titles as well as transaction dates, highlights/stories about the car and events that it participated in. Additionally a 3 ring binder of receipts, CD of restoration photographs, and documentation of components that will be provided to the new owner. A professional reproduction window sticker is also included for use at car shows. Aside from the engine replacement, all other major components are the correct rebuilt originals – the details of which are provided below. And of course the tank sticker, GM VIN tag and GM Trim tag are also the 100% original ones that were installed by GM on this car in 1967. History: This rare 1967 coupe was received for production on 12/7/66 as Order #361 with delivery to Zone 61. The car was built in St. Louis, Missouri on January 12th, 1967. The car was then purchased new from Dale Chevrolet in Waukesha Wisconsin by the town doctor (the town was much smaller back then). The car was drag raced on weekends at Union Grove Raceway in Beesport Wisconsin until 1971 when it was traded back to Dale Chevrolet. During this time, the car remained stock with the exception of replacing the factory N89 aluminum wheels with a set of aftermarket aluminum wheels. The second owner then purchased the car and kept it for 20 years (who moved to Florida, then Virginia, and then back to Wisconsin where he lives today). He sold the car in 1991 while living in Virginia to a gentleman that kept it until 1996 wherein I represented a buyer for the car who bought it and then subsequently sold it to me a few years later. Copies of titles along with names, phone numbers, and relevant personal recollections about the car are included in the owner history document. This is a Corvette that is enjoyable to drive or show on any occasion. The big block V8 with the Muncie 4 Speed and 3.70 rear ratio is the perfect combination for someone who plans to use the car on nice weekends for shows, club events or pure driving pleasure. This car also performs the way a high performance big block Corvette should perform…..straight and strong to redline, brakes perfectly and smoothly from any speed. With the factory GM sidepipes and the 427 engine, the car sounds absolutely awesome! All original J56 components (braces, correct casting J56 dual pin calipers, J56 pads, and bracket) are installed on the car. The adjustable proportioning valve is not currently installed. It had begun to leak in 1994 and was removed. It was subsequently replaced with an original factory GM New Old Stock NOS unit that I have not installed. The car received a body off restoration in 1996 but it was not a 100% NCRS level quality. At that time, it was repainted in its original color. This was the first and only repaint that the car ever had. The second owner of the car (owned since 1971) empathically states that the car came from the factory as Lyndale blue even though it is coded as Elkhart blue and he has the pictures to back it up – I am old enough to personally have met 2 original owners years ago of 1967 Elkhart Corvettes that also had the darker (Lyndale) paint from the factory. This corvette came from GM with the following options as documented on the factory original tank sticker: The sticker was removed by a corvette restoration business in 1996 and it shows the following. The tank sticker is quite faded but is still legible. 19437 Corvette Coupe Body (1 of 8504) 980 Exterior Elkhart Blue (1 of 1096) 418 Blue Interior Trim L71 435 horsepower 427 cubic inch engine ( 1 of 3,754 ) K66 Transistor Ignition ( 1 of 5,759 ) G81 Positraction Rear Axle 3.70 M21 4-Speed Manual CL Transmission (Muncie) ( 1 of 11,015 ) QB1 Red Stripe Tires (1 of 4230) U69 AM-FM Radio ( 1 of 22,193 ) A01 Soft Ray Glass (all windows) ( 1 of 11,331 ) F41 Special HD suspension (1 of 2198) J56 Special Brake System (Special Calipers, pads, braces, & adjustable proportioning valve) (1 of 267) N14 Side Dual Exhaust (1 of 4209) N89 15 Inch Wheel EQ (Aluminum wheels) (1 of 720) This is a very rare set of options. The J56 brakes and factory aluminum wheels in combination with a rare and desirable color especially when combined with the F41 suspension, side pipes, and complete tinted glass make an irreplaceable car. These are the original factory options! VIN and Trim Tag The original GM VIN plate and original GM Trim Plate on all 1967 Corvettes are affixed to the birdcage just below the glove box. The VIN Tag and Trim tag on this corvette are absolutely original to this corvette. VIN Tag #194377S107xxx (I left the serial # as a partial). First digit 1 Chevrolet Division of General Motors Second and third digits 94 Corvette Fourth and fifth digits 37 2 Door Coupe Sixth digit 7 1967 Model Year Seventh digit S St. Louis, Missouri Manufacturing Plant Last six digits 107xxx Production Number. This is car # 7xxx of the 22,940 built in 1967. Trim Tag (various codes indicating Style, Trim, Body, Paint and Build Date) Style 67 437 1967 Model Year, Coupe (437) Trim 418 AA Blue interior Body S2733 Body Manufactured in St. Louis, Mo. by GM Corporation ( all big block corvettes were manufactured in St. Louis ) Paint 980AA Elkhart Blue exterior paint Build Date F12 Body Built January 12th, 1967 Numbers Matching Transmission and Rear End The transmission and rear end on this car are also both original and correct for this car. Here are the numbers: Transmission, M-21, Muncie 4-speed This corvette has the correct Muncie 4-speed M21 transmission, #3885010. The VIN derivative on the transmission matches the VIN number of this corvette. 7S107xxx. The date stamp on the transmission is P7S20, which translates into P=4 speed Muncie, 7 = 1967 Model year, S20 = November 20 (1966) build date. Rear End # FA 1 3 67 The rear end on this car is original to the corvette. The first two letters “FA” represent an optional axle ratio of 3.70:1 with Positraction Rear Axle. The remaining digits represent a manufacture date of January 3, 1967. Corvette rear ends did not have a VIN stamping and can only be matched to the car based on the date and originality of the rear end. In this case, the match is as good as it gets as this too is the original rear that it left the factory with. Additional Components: Some additional numbers on this car are as follows: Alternator Delco Remy #1100750, 61 amp, dated 6 C 1 (Mar 1, 1966) Not correct for this car but very desirable for swap value Bell Housing Correct #3899621 Aluminum construction, 11" clutch Carburetor 3 Holley 2-Barrel carbs: 3659 (6A3), 3660, 3659 (6B2) Exterior Glass All glass is factory LOF Soft ray tinted, windshield, Right side window/vent, rear window are VA (Dec. 66), Drivers door LA (Mar 66), Drivers vent (UA (July 66) Exhaust Manifolds #3880827 LH and #3880828 RH Horns Appear to be correct originals Horn Relay #1115837 made by Delco Remy Intake Manifold Correct original dated #3894374 Winters aluminum construction Master Cylinder Replacement unit is on car – Original unit is included Radiator Harrison Rear End FA 1 3 67, 3.70:1 ( dated January 3, 1967 ) Starter #1107365 made by Delco Remy 6 K 10 (dated October 10, 1966) Transmission Main case #3885010, P7S20 (Nov, 20, 1966) Voltage Regulator #1119515, 6H (dated August, 1966) J56 Power Brake Booster The original unit with professional restoration Operations Below is the list of items that I just checked for operation: Ease of Start - the engine starts with just a single turn of the key and one pump of the gas pedal, but with a cold motor, it takes some feathering of the gas pedal to keep it running. Horns - both blow correctly, loud and clear, with both the high tone and low tone. HeadLights – Both low and high beams function as designed. These T3 original style headlamps look great. The headlight buckets both rotate smoothly and correctly. Parking Lights - All parking lights work correctly, both the front and the rear. Tail Lights – All 4 work correctly Brake lights – All 4 work correctly Back up lights – Work Turn Signals & Hazard warning - all flashers function correctly, and turn signals cancel properly. Windshield wipers and washer – wipers function at both low and high speed, the washer squirts water as it should. All other lights – interior lights, gauge lights. high beam, turn signal, and brake indicator lights. All checked and working. Gauges – every single gauge, Speedometer, Tachometer, fuel, ammeter, temperature, oil pressure, work correctly. However the gauge cluster is original and has not been restored so they have some fade. Radio –Both FM and AM work properly. The pushbuttons also work for preset stations. Clock – Removed and refurbished. Works great. Heater, Defroster, & Fan – blows outside air, or hot air, in either direction, and the fan works fine at all 3 speeds Cigarette lighter – works properly, pops out when ready. Odometer reset – Does not work. Seats - both the passenger and driver seats adjust correctly, and both seat backs lock into position. Seat Belts - both the passenger and driver original seat belts operate, both latching and adjustable. Side Windows - both side windows open and close completely and smoothly, without binding or interference. Vent Windows - both vent windows open and close without binding or excessive force. Locks - The ignition key works as designed. Both side doors and the glove box door also lock and unlock properly. Doors & Hood - the doors open easily & they close properly and securely. The hood totally closes and it releases correctly. Interior The interior of this corvette is in overall very nice condition. The original blue vinyl seats have been repadded and their covers have been replaced with leather – they are fantastic (however the chrome trim bezel on the seatbacks should be replaced). The original blue dash pads were changed to black as a matter of personal preference and are flawless (original dash pads are included with purchase). The carpet is in good condition however the rear carpet that has two small stains. The steering wheel is flawless and has no cracks; the 3 spokes have the correct brushed metal appearance. The interior rear view mirror is the original mirror, and should be refurbished as the glass is showing its age. Exterior The paint on this car is nice but not perfect as it has a couple of small chips. The tires are Michelin 185 15 red stripe radials in excellent condition on 6 inch ralley wheels. Although it is a factory N89 car, I do not have the original Kelsey Hayes aluminum wheels. Notice that a couple of the pictures are shown with a 7 inch rally and white outline letter tires – those wheels and tires are not included. All exterior chrome is very nice. The side pipe covers are complete and are in excellent condition. The side pipe elements and chrome tip are genuine GM parts and are also excellent. Contact and Payment Information Please email or give me a call (610-772-5290) with questions on this car. I enjoy the car hobby and I am more than happy to answer any questions. I will also help arrange for an inspection and work with your shipper to get the car loaded for transport. It’s fairly stressful buying a 40 year old car on Ebay. I would strongly recommend coming to see the car in person, or hiring a competent inspector to examine any corvette purchase. It makes both parties more comfortable with the transaction. Bid with confidence. The car is available for inspection during the auction or after a financial offer is made. A deposit of $5000 is required within 48 hours of an accepted offer. If you arrive within 7 days of your offer being accepted and are not satisfied with your purchase, you can pass on the car, and I’ll return your down payment Your travel expenses, however, are your own and I will not consider any reimbursement for your travel to see the car. Also, once you have it shipped to your location, it’s yours to keep. The car has been represented accurately in this ad and I believe the terms above to be more than fair. Call Bill. My Cell is 610-772-5290. The best time to call is 5:00 – 9:00 East Time. Leave a message, if necessary, and I’ll call you back asap. You can email me at techfarm101@gmail.com. The car is located in Spring City, Pennsylvania and I will only accept a wired transfer, cashier’s check, certified check, or cash at time of pickup, for payment. I have a clear PA title to the vehicle. This is an ultra rare corvette due to its extraordinary options, tank sticker and owner history. Although the car is very nice and won the "peoples choice award" in the most recent car show, it is not NCRS Top Flight. If this car were finished to top flight condition (which would be very straight forward on this car), it would be a $200,000 + corvette and would be appropriate for a museum as well as any collector of highly unique or rare optioned cars. I have had this car for many years but changing priorities will require it to be sold. It is an excellent investment with a huge potential for recouping back significantly more than your original investment.
