Bidding on our Auto Auctions. Please take note that we require either a zero feedback bidder or a new ebayer to call the office before bidding on our Autos. It is only fair to the other bidders that the price is not artificially inflated by and inexperienced or non serious bidder who has no history or feedback that we can use to validate their intention to follow through with the sale. Since there is no way to block these bids we will simply cancel them as they occur. We also require that you already have a paypal account before you may bid on our Autos. If you are a serious buyer without a paypal account please call the office and we can exempt you from this requirement. 518-891-0100 The Pictures here don't do the car justice. It is just in an odd location at our garage and with the snow it is tough to get good shots. If it warms up a bit over the weekend I will try to drag it into the garage to get additional pics. This car has been sitting for 2+ years. It was brought to us in late fall from another repair shop that closed it doors without completing the repairs to the motor. Our understanding is that a timing chain guide broke and the chain rolled up against the valve cover and stopped the motor. For those familiar with this motor it was recommended that these be converted to a double roller chain. At some time in the past this was done on this car and maybe this is where the trouble began. The previous repair shop started the teardown and that is far as they got. All the parts taken off are in the trunk. We are uncomfortable that additional damage could have been done to the motor so we are recommending to the customer that he install a new , rebuilt or used engine, we quoted 2500 for a used motor installed with a one year guarantee. He says no go and wants to sell the car. So here we are. Obviously the car can't be driven so the buyer would have to arrange to pick it up or ship it. Another option is for a buyer to ship us an engine and we will be happy to install it of 600-800 here at the garage and then we are confident the car can be driven anywhere. This is our typical motor swap price and the range depends on the components that have to be moved from the old motor to the new. We have examined the rest of the car and it is mechanically in outstanding condition. There is no typical rust that one generally sees on this model if fact there is no rust at all on this car. The history shows it to be a New Mexico and California car for most of its life. Perhaps the baby of a movie star at one time, who knows. The car was professionally painted in 2008 and looks great. The soft top looks to be fairly new and is in excellent condition. The interior is very good and completely original. The seats will need to be redone. Expect about 800 or so total to replace the leather, padding and labor. There are several companies who sell the kits for this. The center of the steering wheel has been removed. Our guess is that the horn didn't work but we don't see the parts. There are several companies that have replacements for the steering wheel as well for around 300-500. This is also something that could be had from a salvage yard perhaps. The tires are brand new that brakes appear to be fine the lights all work. The glass is all there and good. We understant that a hard top also exists for the car but we don't know the condition. It has been stored for years but will be included with the sale. We are setting the reserve at 2k for the car since this is what we have offered the owner. He says let it go for 2500 so that is the bin price. If you are a fan of the SLs you aren't going to find a better example for this money. This is an ideal father/son project that can be completed in a couple of weekends. Heck of a 16th birthday present. For those who will ask, yes, the present motor can be repaired. We would recommend that you pull the motor and put it on a stand and do the whole rebuilt though. We can't guess if it can be repaired in the car. You could try. Parts to redo the timing system would run about 600. We are happy to answer and questions you may have. You may also call the Chris at 518-891-0100. We also recomment that you consult your local mechanic if you intend to have the car repaired. Not all shops can do this type of work. Adirondack Auction Broker is a full service online marketing, broker and consignment company providing sales and liquidation services to individuals, businesses and municipal governments.. On Feb-04-12 at 17:27:34 PST, seller added the following information: I added some pictures but these are not much better than the first ones. One watcher wanted better pics of the body. There are no dents and very, very few scratches on this car, this car is in outstanding condition for the year as stated above. If it isn't what I describe, don't buy it, i will refund all of your money! Look at the auto check on this thing. It rates top of the scale. There is just no way with the current weather for me to get a better set of pics. We're talking 2 grand not 10 for a classic SL. As you can see we have been getting a bit of snow of late. I had planned to move the car into the garage so I could shoot the interior but unfortunately the doors and locks are frozen solid. Not to worry for a buyer, I will tent it with a tarp and thaw it out with a propane space heater so it can be loaded. I did the best I could to shoot the general interior through the window. Hope this helps and as always I will be happy to answer specific question or describe the car in more detail by message or on the phone. On Feb-08-12 at 05:36:39 PST, seller added the following information: We had a bit of warm weather in Upstate NY. The car in now cozy in the gargage and ready to be shipped to it's new home. I had three open slots for pics so I added a rocker pic, a trunk pan pic and a tire pic. On Feb-08-12 at 05:40:51 PST, seller added the following information: I shot 34 pics in the garage but I don't have the room here to post them. If you want to message me with your email, I can email them to you.
