NO EXCEPTIONS. Up for bid is this original 1975 Chevrolet Nova 9C1 Police Package. These cars have been named among the "Elite Eight" police vehicles of all time. Taken from Ed Sanow's Police Cars Restoring, Collecting and Showing America's Finest Sedans, "In the larger sense, the most collectible and most valuable police cars are the ones that started a trend or changed the way cops thought about police cars. In 1975,Motor Trend Magazine, the Los Angeles County Sheriff and Chevrolet teamed up to produce the Police Package Nova. With Bel Air brakes, Camaro powertrain and Nova SS suspension, the Nova totally changed the way cops thought about compact police sedans. By the late 1970's, Nova fever had swept the nation. City cops and urban deputies gladly gave up their long wheelbase sedans for the high performance compact. The Nova left it's mark forever." From Ed Sanow's Chevrolet Police Cars, "The COPO 9C1 used the LM1 350 CID 4-Barrel Carbureted V8 with the M40 Turbo Hydramatic 350 Transmission and a 3.08 rear axle ratio. The 9C1 Nova's also included fluid coolers and were fitted with heavy duty chassis components. Chevrolet used the heaviest duty Nova SS and Camaro Z28 suspension components and brakes from the full size Bel Air and Impala." It also included special 14x7 heavy duty wheels and heavy duty front and rear sway bars. In addition the speedometer was changed from the standard 85 MPH retail unit to a 120 MPH calibrated unit. The steering wheel was also changed to the Z28 style 4-spoke sport steering wheel. These police package Nova's are extremely rare and there are very few in existence, from the ones we know of, less than 10 still exist. This particular Nova has always been a California car as evidence by it's original blue and yellow plates which would have been put on when the car was retired around 1977 based on the series. We don't know what department this Nova served with. When we first bought the car over 10 years ago we were told it was from the Orange, California Police Department but we have been unable to verify this. We've removed several interior components trying to locate anything to verify any clues to it's history but have been unsuccessful. The Nova has always had a brass keytag with a unit number of 9103 on it. If anyone knows anything about this car's history please let us know. The Nova has always been solid white per the cowl tag. This Nova was never outfitted with spotlights, a lightbar or any type of roof lights. It only had a roof and trunk mounted antenna. It still retains it's original steel pushbar which is welded to the frame and obviously never removed. It also retains it's original prisoner's partition between the front and rear seats and cages over both rear door windows. Some have suggested that this car could have been used as a prisoner transport unit but we don't know for sure. This Nova still has it's original Federal Signal PDC70 power distribution center and Federal Signal control unit mounted to the front floor. It does not appear that it was ever removed as a brake light cut-off and trunk release are still hooked up through it. The other switches are not functional at this time. We first acquired this Nova approximately 10 years ago from the Los Angeles area. We sold the car to some friends who stored it inside their barn for a number of years and got the Nova back last year. After initially selling the Nova, we always regretted it and wanted the car back. We now find that the Nova has been sitting since the Ripon Police Car show in the beginning of October. This Police Package Nova is equipped with the 350 4-Barrel V8, automatic transmission, power steering, power disc brakes and air conditioning. The mileage of 83,007 is what is shown on the odometer, we have no idea if it has turned over or not. The air conditioning is not blowing cold, we have never looked into it. Police Package Nova's either came with a front bench seat or Camaro bucket seats. This 9C1 still retains the original black buckets as shown on the cowl tag. It also has the original rubber floor mat still installed. The upholstery, door panels, headliner and dashpad are in excellent condition. The car has never had any rust. We had the Nova repainted it's original white color including the rims within the last year. Prior to paint, all door handles, trim, tail lights, grille, etc. were removed. We also located a set of NOS hubcaps for it which look great. Mechanically the Nova runs very well and was in the Ripon police car parade which involved low speed driving for nearly an hour with no overheating issues. We haven't driven this car any great distances but we don't know of any problems with it. Occasionally the Nova will smoke which does clear up. The fuel gauge doesn't appear to be currently working as it always reads full. We haven't looked into what's wrong with it. Being a 1975, this Nova never needs to be smogged in California. It is currently on a California Non-Op, so no back fees are due. Based on it's rarity, you may never see another real 9C1 available again. The reserve will not be disclosed during the auction. The vehicle can be stored free of charge for up to two weeks after the auction has ended, or longer with prior notification and agreement. Vehicles left past the agreed storage date are subject to a $15.00 per day storage fee. We are open for vehicle pick up during the week. We are not open on the weekend, but can make an exception with prior arrangement. Sorry but we spend weekends with our families. VEHICLE REGISTRATION, SALES TAX, SMOG, FEES, ETC: We are a licensed California auto dealer. The state requires that if you're out of state and plan on coming here to pick up the vehicle, you need to know that California law REQUIRES the buyer to pay sales tax, registration, and smog fee's if they pick up the car and drive it away. This is still the LAW even if you put the car on your trailer and it never touches the California roadway. If you're out of state, avoid can avoid all of these required fees by having your car shipped to your state. This in most cases is less expensive anyway by the time you figure gas, lodging, and other expenses. If you're an out of state buyer but picking up the vehicle and driving home, we can reduce the state required registration to a $16.00 one trip permit, but the other fees will still apply. If you are a California resident, we collect sales tax, registration fee, and a $58.25 smog inspection fee, if applicable. We then provide you with temporary registration in the window so you can legally drive the vehicle until your title and license plates arrive in the mail. All sales require a $55.00 DMV and paperwork fee. This covers the costs of our mailings of the title, bill of sale, license plates if required, and going to the DMV for you on your behalf. PAYMENT INFORMATION: Please follow the rules of the auction after it is completed, regarding deposit and full payment deadlines. Anyone not following through with the auction will be reported to Ebay and NEGATIVE FEEDBACK will be left. There is a clear title on the vehicle. A non-refundable deposit of $500.00 must be received by me within 24 hours of the close of auction via Paypal, money order, or cashiers check, sent via overnight express mail. After that, full payment needs to have been received within the next five business days of the close of auction. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL AS PAYMENT FOR THE BALANCE DUE. In other words, full payment balance after deposit is due 5 business days after the auction close date, and must be paid via cash (in person only for cash), cashiers check, or money order. Any out of state buyer will need to contact their own DMV office for registration and transfer information.
