Vehicle Detail

This is a 1971 Volvo 1800e turquoise blue sports coupe, 4 speed plus overdrive that my grandfather gave me as a graduation gift this year. He was the original owner and traveled to Europe to pick it up. Car has 41,073 original miles on the odometer at the time of this listing. Before my grandfather gave it to me, he had it serviced, repainted in original color, reupholstered, brake system re-bleed, added new R&R trunk board padding and lining, R&R exhaust system, battery, fuel tank, fuel sending system, R&R fuel line, spare wheel cover, and four new 165/R15 tires. The motor runs good and transmission and clutch work great. No brake squeaking noticed. Includes original owner's manual. There are three weather cracks on the dash. Steering wheel also has some cracks and peeling. The overdrive control stick on the steering column is loose and needs fixed. The weather stripping around the side windows are cracked and will need replaced. (see pict) There is some metal deterioration in the engine compartment next to the battery and a water reservoir pump cap (for windshield fluid I believe) that needs replaced. Pictures provided. Original radio was replaced (unfortunately) in the early 1990's with a Audiovox cassette tape deck, with separately mounted Coustic EQ, and Alpine speakers (two on the doors, two in the back). A beautiful car with tons of personality that turns heads. My dad affectionately called it the "Batmobile" growing up with it. I wish I could keep it because of the family history, but I need money for college expenses and a car that is a bit more practical. Good luck with your bid. He was the original owner and traveled to Europe to pick it up. Car has 41,073 original miles on the odometer at the time of this listing. Before my grandfather gave it to me it had been sitting awhile, so he had it serviced, repainted in original color, brake system re-bleed, added new R&R trunk board padding and lining, R&R exhaust system, battery, fuel tank, fuel sending system, R&R fuel line, spare wheel cover, and four new 165/R15 tires. The motor is original and runs great. Transmission, clutch, and brakes all work great as well. All interior gauges and A/C-heater work. Underside is in good shape, although you can tell it has never been repainted or undercoated. Not something you see done a lot in Arizona anyway (usually dry and no salt on the roads to deal with). No rust deterioration noticed except where noted below. Chrome trim is original and in really good shape except for usual surface scratches in areas commonly handled (door). Rocker panels appear to to be in good shape with no rust erosion noticed (see pics). Includes original owner's manual. A beautiful car with tons of personality that turns heads. The people at the car wash I took it to recently were all coming out to take pictures on the phones. It definitely has new retro appeal beyond Volvo enthusiasts. That's the good, now the truth in advertising. There are three weather cracks on the lower dash section, and the upper dash was redone (see pic)- Arizona sun is not very forgiving. Steering wheel also has some cracks and peeling. The overdrive control lever on the steering column is loose and needs fixed. Car will go into overdrive (blue light comes on), but it can slip out due to the loose lever. The turn signal works, but does not click into place, so it is easy to forget it is on. Not sure if it needs fixed, or if that is the way it was designed. The weather stripping around the side windows are cracked and will need replaced. (see pic). There is some metal rust in the engine compartment next to the battery which I understand is common and easily fixed. Most other 1800's listed you can tell they have been touched up. The water reservoir pump cap (for windshield fluid I believe) needs replaced (see pic). Car tends to heat up a bit too fast when idling, so it will probably need the radiator looked at. Most likely clogged up from sitting so long I'm told. Original radio was replaced (unfortunately) in the early 1990's with a Audiovox cassette tape deck, with separately mounted Coustic EQ, and Alpine speakers (two on the doors, two in the back). My grandfather had the interior reupholstered at some point along with the wheels painted, so it lost some of it's original look. It is also missing a interior lamplight cover in the back. Most of these issues, however, are correctable for someone looking to bring this car back to it's full potential. Seen these go for as much as $24,000, so it could be a great investment for someone with the time and knowhow. Our family will hate to see it go. Our loss is your gain. Good luck with your bid. On Jan-30-12 at 05:24:28 PST, seller added the following information: I apologize for having two seperate descriptions above. I wanted to add a few more details, but being unfamiliar with ebay I did not realize that my second description would be added to the first and not replacing it. Both are fine, but the second version is worded a bit differently and will have a few more details based on questions received and things I've noticed since driving it some more. Now I know....
