1972 was the only year the 350SL came to the US with European bumpers and headlights. As a result, the car looks like it was designed to look – before those awful collision proof bumpers and seal beam headlights. The car also has the removable hardtop in addition to the soft top. The car has brand new wheels (the steel ones that were right for the year), tires and hubcaps (as of August 2006). The car has a completely rebuilt front end, new valves and guides were installed less than 2,000 miles ago along with the brakes with new calipers and pads. As the pictures show, some TLC is needed but with some one can make a decent driver out of the car. The driver’s seat needs recovering and there’s a crack in the leather covering the dashboard. Carpets could stand replacement. Same for the paint. The good news is that it appears to be original, and could be brightened up and touched up to make it adequate. For anyone wanting to bring the car back, a repaint would make sense. There is some rust in all the typical places but it doesn’t show much. It probably needs a muffler if you want it silent like factory. This car is being sold “AS IS with no warranty” with payment required from the successful bidder within 5-days of sale.
