Vehicle Detail

1982 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia DieselFrom the vanagon.com website: " A diesel powered Vanagon is a natural, because a truly efficient vehicle deserves the most efficient engine. This option points out how thoroughly the Vanagon was designed and engineered. " Distinguished by its dual front grilles, the rear-wheel drive diesel Vanagon was well equipped with rack and pinion steering, power-assisted brakes, and front and rear independent suspension. Standard features also included swiveling front bucket seats, a rear window defogger, two-speed windshield wipers, vinyl trimmed upholstery and a folding rear bench seat that provided additional cargo space. Great steering radius and visibility, and unparalleled in ergonomics/space, road trip and camping comfort. Room for as many friends as you want, and no other van, truck, or luxury SUV ever made can come close to matching the amenities and uses that the 1980-1991 Vanagon Westfalias offer. Truly a "swiss army knife on wheels" the Vanagon Westfalia is a favorite amongst the camping crowd who appreciate it for it's fine handling, versitility and comfort. From the pop up top with sleeping berth to the stove, sink, pantry and abundant storage the Westfalia is the picture of efficiency and economy. This rust free southwest example runs and looks great. Showing 135K miles (original per the title) it looks to have original paint and shows no signs of any significant body damage or repairs. The paint is thin in many areas and there are various chips and scratches- ok for a driver but not for show. The front seats have been recovered at some point and in great shape. The rear seat and bed pad are the original multi-colored striped material with no rips or tears. The cloth for the popup is in good shape with no tears or rips, and the original Westfalia camping accessories- sink with built in tank and pump, gas stove and refrigerator are all there. It only has one of the original tables. The sturdy and reliable diesel engine has just had new glow plugs installed and starts quickly even in cold weather. These diesel engines have great longevity with proper maintenance and get great fuel mileage. The standard 4 speed trans and clutch work fine- no grinding or slipping. It tracks straight and goes down the road fine and stops well. This Westy is a great example that is good to go as-is or needs little for a full restoration. The pictures tell most of the story, but if you need more photos of any specific area please feel free to contact me and I will get them to you. The vehicle is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. It is available for viewing in Scottsdale, Arizona- please contact me to arrange an appointment.
