No Reserve Auction Hello fellow Ebayers. Up for auction I have this very nice 1995 Civic VX hatchback. It is bone stock and unmolested. It has 179000 miles. Chances are if you are looking at this auction. You probably know exactly what you are looking for. If not then here’s quote from this wikipage to help you get an idea of what this car is about. “VX: Fitted with only manual transmission, the VX was very similar to the base model CX but gained improved fuel efficiency through a 92 hp 1.5 L VTEC-E engine yielding 48/55 mpg (city/hwy) [revised to 2008 EPA rating: 39/49 mpg city/hwy[3]] or 44/51 mpg (city/hwy) [revised to 2008 EPA rating: 36/46 mpg city/hwy[4]]. In Canada, it was rated by Transport Canada fuel consumption estimate: 4.7L/100km city and 4.3L/100km hwy.[5] Other features were an 8K tachometer with redline at 6K RPM, lightweight 13-inch (330 mm) aluminum alloy rims, as well as additional front & rear under-body trim additions to improve aerodynamic flow.[citation needed] To this day, the CX & VX models are lauded as one of the gasoline-powered cars that rival fuel economy of hybrids and diesels -- in the March 2010 issue of Car & Driver, it mentions its long-term test car, a 2009 VW TDI Jetta with 6-speed dual-clutch auto transmission, got worse fuel mileage (38 mpg) than their 1992 Honda Civic VX test car (which got 41 mpg) and 2000 Honda Insight hybrid (48 mpg).[6] “ 70+ HD pictures can be viewed at the following link. http://www.pbase.com/vfan940/1995_civic_vx I purchased it a little over a month ago (Dec 05, 2011) with the intent of getting a vehicle that has hybrid equivalent fuel efficiency without the expensive hybrid technology as a daily driver. Unfortunately my wife didn’t warm up to it mainly because she cannot drive stick and is not interested in learning. So to keep the peace I decided to sell it and will be putting a down payment on a boring Toyota Prius once the car is sold. The car is originally from the south. Drove it up to New Jersey from Pensacola FL. It was a nice trip that I was looking forward to. It gave me the opportunity to test Honda’s fuel efficiency claims of this vehicle. My first tank fill was a little disappointing. I filled with a cheap no name brand 87 octane and driving at an average of 80 mph I was only able to get 39.7mpg. While 39.7 seems to be not bad at all. I expected more from this car. So on my second fill I went with Shell 87 octane and was able to get 42.3mpg. A descent improvement, but still disappointing (to me anyways). For my third and last fill, I made further adjustments. I went with Shell again, but filled with 89 octane and reduced my speed to an average of 65-70mph. After that adjustment, all I can say is WOW!. My fuel gauge was going down so slow that I thought something had gone wrong with it. When I got home I still had more than half a tank left so I filled up anyways just to see how many mpg. To my surprise an astounding 49.2mpg (WOW! x 2). That’s better than the Toyota Prius and confirms Hondas claim. Being that this vehicle has a wideband oxygen sensor as oppose to a narrowband. It would make sense to see how sensitive this vehicle is with regards to fuel quality. Lowering my speed definitely helped also. I have to advice though that these numbers can only be attained with a light foot on the gas pedal. The lean burn technology of this engine is design to work under 2500 rpm(if I’m not mistaken). Also the above mpg are all highway. Locally I have filled twice and have attained between 36-39mpg doing more local than highway driving. So there you have it. Enough of my test drive/trip. Now for the nitty gritty on the vehicle. Being that it’s a southern vehicle. There is absolute zero rust on this vehicle. The under carriage is rust free. Incredible for a 1995 vehicle unless it’s out in Arizona or Nevada but then it would be beaten by the sun. The car did have an accident on the left quarter panel, which I had professionally repaired. Before and after pictures are provided. I also had the entire car buffed out. The car comes with a clean title. The previous owner had it for approx. 5 years and within those five years the following has been replaced. Clutch Fuel pump Battery Radiator O2 sensor ($300+ item) Spark plugs & cables Alternator (with used one) Most recently replaced from the list above are the O2 sensor & radiator. Within the last month while in my possession, I have replaced the following: New upper & lower ball joints New upper control arms + bushings New inner & outer tie rods (rack & pinion) New KYB GR2 shocks (all 4) New strut tower mounts (all 4) New polyurethane upper & lower strut bushings (all 4) New accessory belts New OEM catback exhaust + hangers New Vtec solenoid seals Replaced oil last week with Mobil synthetic 10w30 New OEM windshield washer jets As you can see, much has been done to make this car whole again. I also had a front alignment done being that the tie rods were replaced. This car feels nice and tight going down the road. Drives true and straight with no vibrations from the tires or suspension. The tires are Bridgestone insignia’s all around. They have about 60% tread in the front and 40% in the rear. In my opinion they are a little noisy, but that’s just me. I prefer a softer rubber compound. Michelin Harmony has great reviews for this cars tire size (175 70 R13). Engine burns no oil. Just passed NJ smog inspection. Timing belt cover is missing (that’s how I got the car). As for the timing belt itself. I don’t know when it was last replaced but a close inspection reveals no hairline cracks or dry rotting. No loose threads or plies. In my opinion, it’s still good for another 30k miles. Air Condition and Heat both work. Has a Sony CD head unit with remote control. Has “AUX in” for your iPod/iPhone. The interior is very clean. Drivers side seat bolster is worn a bit but does not affect comfort or support of the seat. The body in my opinion is above average for a car of this year. It has two small minor dents as indicated in the pictures. Minor blemishes indicative of a car of this year can be expected. You will probably think nothing of it but I tend to be a little anal. Like I said, I consider this car to be above average for the year. The pictures will show you for themselves. The only thing that I can see left in need of attention is the oil pan gasket that needs to be replaced. As a result, every now and then a drop of oil falls on the exhaust which runs directly underneath the oil pan. This car is ready for cross-country driving. I already made a 1200 mile drive with it and would not hesitate to do it again. If you have any questions, please ask. I will try to answer them to the best of my ability. Do remember though that it’s only been in my possession this past month only. If you are an out of state buyer, I will take you to my local DMV to have them issue you a temporary in-transit plate. There is a small fee they charge. You will need to bring proof of insurance. I will start the auction low at $999 to generate interest. This will be a no reserve auction. Winning bidder will need to deposit $500 through Paypal and the remaining balance cash in person. Car is to be picked up in person. Happy bidding and good luck!.
