Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1959 Morris Minor Tourer. I bought this car in 1993. It was a basket case. The floors were gone as was one rocker. I spent 8 years restoring it. The body was disassembled and sand blasted inside and out, top to bottom. Rust was cut out and new panels welded in. The body was completely painted, including the underside. The underside was then undercoated. The car was painted a dark metallic green. Many people think it is black until they get close. Everything was either replaced or rebuilt. All chrome was either replaced or rechromed with the exception of the hockey sticks. front and rear suspensions were completely rebuilt. The original 948 was rebuilt and ran great but didn't have enough power to be safe on the freeway so it was replaced with a 1275 with a 11/4 SU carburettor. The transmission was replaced with a Morris Service Datsun 5 speed conversion. The differential was replaced with a 3.90 from an MG Midget. It now cruises on the freeway with no problems. The engine leaks VERY LITTLE oil! I never got around to converting to disc brakes in the front so it still has the drum breaks. The brakes were completely rebuilt with all new parts and has been running on silicon brake fluid since it was finished in 2003. The interior was redone with medium green seat upholstery and grey carpeting and panels. Sun visors were installed. The interior features a Pioneer AM.-Fm. cassette with detachable face and four speakers. It sounds great. The wheels and grill are painted Wimbeldon White and the wheels have new hub caps. The convertible top is a black Robbins vinyl. The rear window is clear. The car has a grey convertible top boot which I had made in England. I have never seen another example. It fits great and looks sharp. The car gets great gas mileage. The wiring was replaced with a new cloth covered loom. I added a temperature and oil pressure gauge. The Morris has a hidden ignition kill switch. If someone tries to steal the car they can run down the battery but it won't start unless the hidden switch is flipped. I have probably driven less than 2000 miles since the car was completed. It has never been driven in the rain. The speedometer has been inaccurate since I did the transmission swap and recently the fuel gauge has stopped working. The Morris is a delux model so the side glass trim is chrome and stainless. The Minor has the 8 1/2 gallon fuel tank. If I was going to keep the car I would have it repainted but it looks fine as is. The Morris has been a consistent class winner at various shows, including the last show I went to in September. With a new respray the car would be really superior in my opinion. It has collected a few small dents and paint chips over the last 9 years. The badge bar goes with the car but the badges do not. I never intended to sell this car as I really love it but I have been in the hospital 13 times since last Memorial Day and the bills are starting to roll in. I will deliver within 200 miles of Fresno California for the cost of my gas. My reserve is about 1/3 of what it cost to build the Morris. I accept Paypal and cash. I require a $500 dollar non refundable deposit with 48 hours of the close of auction from the successful buyer. Any questions can be asked on site of the ad, or you may call me at (559) 645-0631. My name is Paul. Please do not ask my reserve as I will not divulge it. All sales are final. I have tried to be completely honest but I may have missed something. Good luck and thanks for reading my ad.On Dec-28-11 at 13:37:01 PST, seller added the following information: I went out to start the Morris today and the battery was dead, so I have purchased, and installed a new battery. Also, I forgot to mention that the Morris has an alternator conversion. Thanks. On Jan-01-12 at 19:41:37 PST, seller added the following information:Forgot that the Morris has a petronics in the distributor. Have never had a problem with it and really enjoy not having to get under the car to adjust the timing. Thanks
