Vehicle Detail

Up for bid are TWO 2 Mercedes project cars. I am selling them as a pair because I am tired of seeing them. You get BOTH cars. You can make a great car from both of these. The white one is the 63 and the beige one is the 65. The first one is a 63 1963 Mercedes Benz 190Dc. It has its original diesel engine. This particular car is a German domestic model not intended for export to the US. It has a few things that set it apart from American models. It has a full bench seat in the front rather than buckets. It has four drum brakes that are non power. Also there is no power steering. You can flash the high beams on the turn signal switch like a new car, I understand this was for Autobahn use. The speedometer has been replaced with a miles per hour unit at some point. I think those are the only differences. I used to drive this car daily and it always drove and handled great even for its age. The engine was leaking a lot of oil so I took it to a few places for an estimate and next thing you know, the engine was being completely rebuilt. I had the work done at a shop that works only on European cars. They rebuilt the whole long block including NOS pistons, oil pump, timing chain and gears, head job, cam, and they upgraded the rocker arm set up to the later style which they said is easier to get parts for. The long block work at the shop was $5,300 alone. I painted the engine while it was out of the car using engine enamel from Bill Hirsch and had the oil pan powder coated .When the engine was out I removed everything from the windshield forward. I sandblasted, primed and painted the front end with black because the car was going to be black. If you plan on painting it a different color it wont be a problem. Its only what would be under the hood. The subframe was also sandblasted and painted with chassis black from Eastwood. The discoloration you see on the firewall is a plastic to protect the new insulation but it started to peel off. The subframe went back on with new mounts and bushings. The engine mounts are new. The water pump is new. I had new fuel lines made as well. I sandblasted and painted each component that goes painted in the engine compartment. The fan, thermostat housing, throttle body, fuel filter housing, and oil filler cap are smooth cast aluminum so I semi-polished those. The alternator was also rebuilt. Most of the visible hardware was also replaced with stainless. It has new glow plugs and the radiator was disassembled and dipped then painted with radiator paint from eastwood. The clutch master cylinder and brake master cylinders are new as is the clutch slave cylinder and the front brake shoes, brake hoses, steering stabilizer, front shocks, wheel seals, wheel cylinders, and sway bar bushings. We were able to find an NOS temperature gauge and sender. The only thing that I never got a chance to do before I ran out of money was the fuel pump. The engine runs great but it smokes due to the fuel pump not being tip top. Included is a complete Mercedes gasket set for the transmission I didn’t get to use. The body is fair but does need work. There is no rust except for the surface rust you see in the pictures. I took a grinder to the sides to see how much body filler was on it. The driver side is good except for a little in the lower quarter. The passenger side doors were hit at some point because there is about 3/8ths inch of filler on those doors. The rear window does not open, probably due to that. I never took the panel off to see. Nonetheless, all four doors open and close very smoothly and are not hung or sagging the least bit. As you can see in the pictues, the front end is complete. The grill is in excellent shape and even has some vintage badges. I have the other headlight bezel and I forgot to straighten the hood star. The fenders, hood and trunk are in good shape. The bumpers are pretty dinged and would need to be repaired. The interior is worn and should be redone, there is not much left of the dash pad. There is a spare and original jack in the trunk. I have been tempted to put the fenders back on and use it as is and work on it as I go but I have too many projects. The title is a clear Texas title. The other car is a 1965 Mercedes Benz 190. I bought this car to use as a parts car for the 63 but I found the car to be in too good shape to tear up so I am offering it for sale as it was when I got it. To start, the body is excellent. It is as straight as an arrow. The guy that sold me the car painted it over the original paint that he claims wasn’t bad. All panels fit and align great. The doors are a little hard to open because the car has been sitting for a long time. The bumpers are all in great condition as is all glass. The original interior is all in place but does have rips and tears from the heat as you can see in the pictures. The car had a Mark IV air conditioner which comes with the car. The compressor, condenser, and under dash unit are in the trunk and it still has the decal in the back widow. I have the gas filler door/ rear license plate holder. The original spare tire and original jack are in the trunk. The car came with a bunch of original literature in the glove box. Included is the owners manual, owners service policy (with metal plates stamped with the cars information) , what looks like a factory copy of the build sheet, the service booklet (with little stamps that would be torn out at different service intervals) , a factory parts catalog that has exploded views of EVERY single piece of the car (down to nuts and bolts, its incredible!), an instruction booklet for the Mark IV air conditioner, a Mercedes maintenance products booklet, a little bottle of paint that says “touch up paint for Mercedes” and has the paint code. I don’t think it was used. And the vinyl bag with Mercedes logo to hold all of the manuals. There is also an original tool kit in a canvas bag that has wrenches, a spark plug socket, and part of a screwdriver all with Mercedes Benz written on it. There is also the radio delete plate with the 190 script on it. I have two front original rims and hubcaps. Here is the bad news. The man I bought the car from wanted to do a “resto mod” with the car. He took out the engine, transmission, and rear end and put in a V6 from a Chevy or Buick, I don’t remember which along with the automatic transmission and rear end. That’s why you see those wheels on the back. I have never started it but he said it runs. The work he did was pretty poorly done as far as his welding and fabricating. The original mounts are all there so I would imagine it would be possible to put all of that back in if you want. Nothing has been extensively modified or altered to the point that it can’t be put back. The original air cleaner also comes with car, I don’t know why he left that. He said he scrapped the stuff he took out. The car still has the original radiator but with an electric fan installed. Regardless of what happened to the original drive train, this is still a VERY good car to restore, or maybe continue what this man started, just finish it the right way. Other than that it was a completely original untouched car. The car is even sold with its ORIGINAL TITLE, yes that’s right, you will be the second registered owner of this car. I just couldn’t use this car as a parts car given the remarkable original condition and documentation. I would like to finish up the whole transaction within a reasonable time as I don’t want to have the cars sitting here much longer. Ill take a paypal payment or cash but the cars don’t leave until I have the full bid amount cleared. I think that is fair for both of us. The buyer must arrange for pick up and I’ll help however I can. Please feel free to ask questions and I will be happy to answer them as fast as I can. If you would like to see pictures of something specific let me know Or if you would like to see the cars in person we can arrange that as well. I can answer a text pretty quick, but phone calls will have to wait till I am not working but i will return your call if you leave me a message. Call me at 915-240-6109. Thank you and hope to do business with you soon.
