Vehicle Detail

Manufactured September 1992, this 1993 model is a very handsome, clean, 19 year old low mileage example. Very few coupes were sold in the US and they are hard to find. It took me a year of searching to find this one back in 2004. If you have been looking for one, you know only a few come up for sale a year If you are serious driver this is the car for you. The coupes are far superior to the convertibles. The coupes are lighter, faster, rock solid and frankly better looking. The 4.0 litre inline six cylinder produces 223 Horse Power and 278 lb ft of torque. That was a lot of horse power in the early 90's and its still a lot of power today. As the Jag only weighs 3800 lbs, when in "sport" mode, this car is VERY FAST and fun to drive. The car is a little rocket, and a blast to drive around town as well as devouring long stretches of interstate. The engine revs strong and smooth through all RPMs. The transmission is electronically controlled. Shifts are practically undetectable in "normal" mode; and, in "sport" mode, shifts are sharp and quick. New Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks were installed only 8,000 miles ago. The car rides and handles like new. This is the last year for the solid chrome and black bumpers. In 1994 the cheap body colored plastic bumpers were introduced. Also, 1993 was the last year for the vanity mirror located in the glove box, actually this is the last year the XJS had a glove box. I have owned this Jag 7 1/2 years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am a nationally published highend residential architect and have pampered this car. I have never owned a car this long. Although I have been a Jaguar collector for 12 years, I usually trade toys every two or three years. I have loved this car so much, I actually bought another 1993 XJS with only 22,000 miles on it earlier this year when I discovered it while on vacation. This one drives, rides and looks as good as the one with 22,000 miles on it. I also own a Cranberry 1986 XJ6 Vanden Plas. My plan was to keep this XJS to help keep the miles off the other two jags, but 3 Jags and a Jeep Wrangler are too many toys for a single man in this economy. My mechanic told me the '86 Vanden Plas is due for new front and rear brakes and new shocks, so I have decided to sell this XJS to pay for the maintenance on my vanden plas. Any of you who have owned a Series III knows what kind of bill I am about to get from my mechanic. The car is sporting all of its original sheet metal. This car has never been wrecked. If you would like to see photos of all the vin stickers on each of the body panels, let me know and I will email them to you. The paint has a nice deep gloss and shine to it. It does have a few dings, chips, and scratches befitting a car of its age. However, the car turns heads every where I take it, and it always gets compliments on what a beautiful car it is. The interior is very clean. The front passenger seat is almost like new, the rear seats are like new. they have never been sat in. The only flaw in the interior is the bottom cushion of the drivers seat. The leather split and ripped 6 years ago. I have never gotten around to getting it fixed. This a common occurance for all XJS's. Its very rare to see the leather on the drivers seat in excellent condition. For some reason, every early model 1993 I have seen, the plastic covers on the seat belt buckles have disintegrated (thats Ford plastic for you). The seat belts work like they are supposed to, but the plastic covers are missing. The wood is in very good shape. There are a few tiny hairline cracks in the finish of the wood on the glove box, but only in the finish, not in the veneer. I cannot get them to show up in the photos. There are also one or two hairline cracks on the center console, but once again, the veneer is not damaged underneath the finish. See the pic of the center console. Driver and Passenger seats are heated. The drivers seat has memory position. And yes, the memory seat still works. Cruise control has quit working, and the original stereo quit working last week. Power antenna is new and does work. Fly into Atlanta, I will pick you up at the airport and you can drive it home, or I will be happy to coordinate pick up of the car with your shipper. My 12 cylinder sedan averaged 12 in the city and 19 highway if I was gentle with the throttle and kept it in "normal" mode. Drive a 12 with a heavy foot, and you will be at the gas station twice a week. Maintenance: the 6 is half as expensive to service and twice as reliable than a 12. The 12 requires constant attention to keep it running in good condition. Basically the 12 cylinder is two engines sharing a common crankshaft. Its twin everything. And while I loved saying I owned a 12 cylinder, pride came at a high cost. The weight of the 12 is brutal to the front suspension. All the rubber on the front suspension wears quickly. On my 12, at 35,000 miles fit new shocks absorbers $1500. At 50,000 miles I had to replace all the rubber (tie rod ends, ball joints, bushings, etc) on the front suspension at a cost of over $3,000. $1200 radiator. At 60,000 miles oil cooler lines that burst while on the highway spraying oil all over the cars behind me leaving me stranded on the side of the interstate in the middle of nowhere. a check engine light that seemed to come on every other day. exhaust gaskets leaks, coolant leaks, bad sensors. that car lived in the shop more than I got to drive it. Thank God a young girl T-boned me and totalled my 12 cylinder sedan. At its introduction to the american market, the 1994 Jaguar XJS 12 cylinder 6.0 liter produced 278 horse power, and 334 lb ft of torque. the 12 cylinder coupe is 250 lbs heavier than the 6 cylinder coupe, and the 12 cylinder convertible is 500 lbs heavier than the 6 cylinder coupe. The 6 cylinder coupe is light, much more nimble and a lot more fun to drive. The 6 drives more like a sports car than a GT. Owning is a 12 cylinder is prestigious, but the 6 cylinder is the practical route if you want to enjoy the car daily. If you are a glutton for punishment and your heart is set on buying a 12 cylinder jag, buy a 6.0 liter not a 5.3 liter. Ford fitted a better engine management system on the 6.0. The 6.0 is easier on gas and has more horse power. By 1995 the 12 cylinder coupes were producing 300 horse power. The 6.0 also has a 4 speed automatic, where the 5.3 liter was only available with a 3 speed.
