Up for auction today is this 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe. The car is a project, and will need some work, but is well worth the time and effort. Everyone knows they only made 6052 Aeros in 87', how many are left? This one comes with a clean, clear MA title. The title states 73,000 Original miles, but the history check shows otherwise. The car has the 305HO in it, that starts and runs smooth. I dont know if its the original but it appears to be. The 200-4R trans shifts smooth, no noises. Has a slight exhaust leak, but the car sounds ok. It looks to have had brake work done to it, including front pads and brake lines. This is a very low option car, which I think only the buckets and console being the options added. It is a heat only, roll up windows, no rear defog, hardtop no tilt car, which is rather rare to find on an Aero. Almost everone ordered these cars with all the options. The rear glass and seal are in great shape, no leaks. Infact, all the glass on the car is in great shape. All the keys work on the car, including the door locks. Everything on the car works with the exception of the tachometer, and the high speed setting on the wipers. The horn, headlights, blinkers, reverse lights, tails, all work. The heat in the car works great on all settings. The interior of the car is in ok shape for its age. It is faded and the dash is cracked, but everything is there. The seats are in good shape except for the fading. The console is in good shape besides for the hinge being broken on the top (very common). The gauge cluster is in great shape, with the correct 115 spedo. The passenger side seat track broke, which is why the seat leans back. The headliner is sagging, but the back board is good so it can be recovered. The car has rust, and is why its considered a project. The rust is in the usual Monte places. The lower doors have bondo in them. The lower quarters have bondo in them from the side marker down, but the rest of the quarters are in good shape. The rear inner wheel wells have some rust. The driver side rocker has bondo in it, but the passenger side looks ok. The floor boards have rot, with the driver side being the worst. Someone did some patch work before me, and the rear floors are in ok shape. If it was me I would get a full pan and drop it in, but you could patch it together. The rear frame rails are in good shape up until the rear bumper mounts. It seemed to hold water for some reason and rotted out. The rest of the frame is solid, including over the rear wheels. From what I can see the trunk looks to be ok. The fenders are in good shape. The hood is ok with some rust starting at the front lip, but is not bad. The roof is in great shape. The nose cone is in great shape, no rips or warping. The trunk lid is in good shape. The rear spoiler is great with no cracks. Dont let the rust discourage you, this is a great running project for someone who loves Montes and has the time to put into it. It is a rare car indeed, and its a shame to see them sitting and rusting away. This car runs, drives, and stops, so its already ahead of other project cars. I would keep this car for myself, but I already have a Monte and Im running out of room. If you spend time on it over the winter you could have a sweet ride come spring time.
