Vehicle Detail

New, lower reserve price! Extremely rare 1982 FJ45 Toyota LandCruiser Troop Carrier (aka “Troopy”), in exceptional condition. You will not find a more pristine or better sorted FJ45 anywhere. This RHD Troopy was legally imported in to the States from Australia, and carries a clean title. It has had four adult owners since new, has been very well looked after, and never abused. There are approximately 109,500 original km’s (68,0xx miles) on the odometer. The correct Toyota 2F 6 cylinder engine is mated to a smooth-shifting correct 4 speed transmission, with a 4wd High and 4wd Low manual transaxle. A body restoration (no Bondo, and painted in the original Beige paint code 464) was completed in winter 2010 by the previous owner. The body is very straight. The roof is painted white, and all bumpers are black. The front features a brush guard and a tasteful pair of halogen lamps. Side and rear doors all close and latch solidly. Glass is in excellent condition, with a medium tint added to the rear. All sliders work and latch. All original body badges are still present and have a great patina that you just can’t buy new. There is a small area of surface rust behind the driver's door, where the sheet metal was apparently not prepared correctly before primer and paint were applied. This would be an easy item to fix though. The interior is immaculate. The seats are in great shape, all gauges work and the instrument cluster is beautiful, the front and rear heaters work well and look new, the mats are in perfect condition, and all the factory tools are present. It has also had a brand new headliner recently installed- no sags and no smudges. In early 2011, a mechanical restoration was undertaken, and there are over $37,000 in receipts to show for it. The most significant upgrade was the addition of a throttle body injection (TBI) fuel injection system. This has provided improvements in horsepower, torque, and fuel economy as well as runability- the Troopy’s 2F engine starts the first time, every time, hot or cold. The fuel injection upgrade includes a HEI distributor, new ECU and fuse panel, intake manifold, and oxygen sensor welded in to the exhaust. The whole system was professionally tuned on a chassis dyno after install. The coolest part is that the factory air cleaner assembly has been adapted to fit the TBI manifold. Unless you look carefully, you will not notice that the induction is not stock. Other recent work includes: rebuilt cylinder head, new exhaust and heat shield, new starter, new alternator, new radiator, new water pump, new battery, new master and slave brake cylinders, new wheel cylinders, new brake lines, all hubs rebuilt and bearings repacked or replaced, new u joints in drivelines, new shocks, new steering stabilizer, and more. I have all receipts. The BF Goodrich 31x10.5x15 tires have approximately 1,000 miles on them, and are mounted on polished aluminum wheels. A spare tire on a steel wheel is located underneath the rear of the chassis. Despite the offroad tires, the Troopy drives very well. It tracks and brakes in a straight line, and is comfortable to drive at 60 mph. Acceleration and braking are both excellent. It handles like a truck, not a sportscar, but doesn’t have any bad habits. The handling is certainly much better on and off road than any FJ40 due to the FJ45’s long wheelbase. It truly is ready to drive and enjoy for many years to come- you will not spend the first 6 months of ownership sorting out all sorts of little items. This car needs nothing but a new owner with aspirations of camping, fishing, or just cruising in style. The bed is large enough to put a full size blow up mattress in back. This would be the ultimate vehicle to drive through Central and South America: tough, reliable in any conditions, tons of space, and legendary 4 wheel drive. I have done my best to include as much detail as possible in this listing. It is truly a 1982, even though I had to list it above as a 1980 as eBay would not allow me to enter a non 17 digit VIN for a vehicle built in 1982. That said, if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask. Please contact me through eBay or by phone at 425-922-0246. I reserve the right to end this listing at any time, as the Troopy is listed locally as well. Please bid with confidence, and good luck!
