Vehicle Detail
For sale is this 1985 Mercedes 300SD Turbo Diesel Sedan. If you’re viewing this listing, you are probably familiar with the virtues this car offers such as fuel efficiency, solid German engineering, build quality, et cetera. The photos of this vehicle should accurately depict the current condition of this vehicle, as they were taken just prior to listing this vehicle for sale. In an effort to disclose all that I know about this vehicle, I will list the specifics, as well as the features that function properly, those that do not, and other miscellaneous defects. Year, Model, Mileage: 1985 300 SD Turbo Diesel 5 cylinder motor. 178,102 actual miles (properly functioning odometer and trip meter) Color: Light Ivory body with metallic brown bumpers and body cladding (two-tone exterior). Palomino leather (not MB-Text vinyl) with perforated leather inserts. The body panels and paint are all original with the exception of trunk lid. I believe the original trunk lid was replaced with one from a different car, but matching in color with the rest of the car. I am not sure as to the reason behind this, but if the original trunk lid was damaged, any damage was solely confined to the lid itself as the surrounding areas look to be completely original to the car. History: A very solid west-coast car. I do not believe it has ever been in any sort of accident (trunk lid non-withstanding). The body looks straight and original. Clean AZ title, no liens, no salvage, shows actual miles. Mechanical: The engine is strong and solid, no leaks. The turbo functions as it should. Transmission shifts as is typical with these classic Mercedes- with solid, crisp and distinct shifts between gears- no slipping. The car starts right up with very minimal glow plug warming period. Engine cooling/radiator functions as it should, and oil pressure is strong as evidenced by the properly functioning oil pressure gauge. Old diesels tend to leak drips of engine oil as they reach higher mileage, but this particular car is dry underneath even when parked for extended periods- in fact, it leaks less than my 1993 Lexus LS400 with far less miles! Brakes feel solid with no shimmy when coming to a stop. Features: 4 matching Kumho tires with about 25-30 percent tread remaining. Air Conditioning functions as it should and blows cold from all vents, even the "Auto" feature works. Brand new heavy-duty battery. Power windows, sunroof, factory radio with working power antenna, power seats, power door locks, all gauges except clock all work. All interior and exterior lights work. Vacuum system that operates central locking system (as well as engine shut-off) functions properly. The engine shuts off when you turn the key. Blower motor/vents for interior heating and ventilation functions perfectly. Defects: As beautiful as this car shows, please remember that it is nearly one quarter of a century old. By no means do I intend to represent this car as perfect, but this is a solid 9 out of 10 in both mechanical and cosmetic condition. Carpets are clean, leather is in great condition with no rips in the seats. The upper dash has no cracking, and the wood trim is in nice condition, with only some slight cracking surrounding the shift knob. It is 99.9 percent rust free, completely solid undercarriage, floorboard (underneath the carpeting), doors, body, etc. Only one tiny speck of surface rust about half the size of a dime located underneath the rear driver's side tail light. That is it! I've extensively searched every area of this car for any other evidence of rust and there is none to be found except this. Overall, I could nit-pick minor details, but everything is reasonable considering year and mileage. This is a mechanically solid car with every feature working as it should except for the clock and rear driver's side window. I have driven this vehicle extensively, in stop and go traffic, and on highways. Runs and drives great, I would not hesitate to drive this car on a long-distance trip. No overheating issues whatsoever, it runs cool for a diesel. Please contact Philip at (602) 402-2958 or email me at Makoshark83@yahoo.com for any questions or to view this vehicle. I am selling this vehicle for a friend. If you are an out of state buyer, I can pick you up from Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport should you chose to fly here, or I can help facilitate shipping in any reasonable manner, but all shipping related costs are the responsibility of the buyer. As-is sale, no warranties expressed or implied. On Nov-12-11 at 15:26:56 PST, seller added the following information: I'd like to add that the cruise control on this vehicle does function properly, which is quite a rarity for a Mercedes of this era. Also, The motor mounts do a fine job of insulating engine vibration at idle, even while the car is parked in an inclined position such as in my driveway.
