Vehicle Detail
1983 Honda CR-480R. Engine number: PE02E-5205499. This was a seldom ridden/trail ridden bike and nearly 100% original when I bought it. The handlebars were the only non-original item on the bike. The lower fork tubes, swingarm and rims show very minimal nicks on them and are easy evidence to it's lack of use. The original foot peg teeth show very minimal wear also. This was to be my personal race bike, so I wanted to go completely through it for peace of mind. Unfortunatley due to the current economy, I am forced to let it go. As you can see, my color choices somewhat resemble a later model CRF Honda. Personally, I never liked the blue seat color and had a red one custom made. The white rear fender is from '84+ CR-500R's. It is correctly mounted on the outside of the rear sub-frame tabs where the skinny '83 fenders were mounted on the inside of the rails. The front fender is a new 2007 Honda CR-250R piece and it bolted right up with absolutly no issues or modifications. Clears the pipe easily. All engine seals were replaced as was the clutch plates and springs. It also has a fresh bore using a Wiseco .50 over piston & rings. It has a DG pipe & silencer (I taped off and polished a section to appear as a heat shield). The bike starts easily (1-2 kicks hot or cold), idles, shifts and runs perfectly. It is the most fun I have ever had on a dirt bike (in 38 years of competition)! When the suspension is set up properly as it is for me, it is a total blast to ride! It just does everything as designed and is very easy to ride fast (or slow-your choice). It has a new Michelin 120/90 X 18 M12 rear tire and a Pirelli 100/90 X 21 MT32F front tire. Even though the bike only has break-in time on it (35 minutes), the dirt was soft/loose, so the tires still look as new. It also has new tubes, rim straps and brake shoes front & rear. The rear shock was rebuilt along with new fork seals. The front springs are now Eibach .45's and the rear spring is a "straight wound" KTM 7.6 spring (i think from a '96 440 which had useable dimensions with the stock reservior). These spring weights will comfortably accomodate a 190 to 230 pound rider. The bike handles amazingly well compared to the new ones I had back in the day, as the stock bikes were sprung too soft (unless you were 100 pounds or less - not likely on a 480!). It's kind of odd that we never really used to do anything to suspension back in the day other than adjust the 'clickers' for dampening/rebound (spring changes were not normally done). There is no head-shake and the front end does not dive like a stocker in the corners. The bike also has a new chain & sprockets. The bike has new aftermarket wide footpegs which were modified to fit. They are for a 2003 Honda CR-125R and had the correct height and forward location to match the stock peg location. There are very few aftermarket pegs that will allow the stock peg position. The swingarm, rear shock linkages and steering stem were disassembled, inspected, greased and torqued. I have Black Renthal 1 1/8" bar mounts and a CR Mid-Hi/Bend bar on it. The PowerMadd hand guards have two different pop-in/out inserts. These are really cool and strong (low weight) hand guards and will not colapse back onto your fingers and levers if you hit something or fall with your hands on the grips. The largest inserts are not shown (only small black inserts shown), but are to be used to block sand/water/mud/cold air, etc. With no snap-in covers, the guards are allowed to vent with the old-school "french fry basket" looking pattern. I do have a new stock '83 front fender and rear fender ('84+) for the bike along with the stock shock & fork springs and black steel bars that were on it when purchased. They will be included at the Buy-It-Now price, but will be an additional $100 at/above reserve price IF you want them. Original looking blue seat covers are available and you could easily turn the bike back to the stock appearance if wanted. I have over $4500 invested in the bike. The bike will be sold with a bill of sale.
