Vehicle Detail
1939 Chevrolet Master Delux This is an all original car You are bidding on an all original 72 year old specimen that is in unique condition. The paint, engine, upholstery etc. are all original. There is absolutely no rust on this car that is as sound as a “tank”. There have only been 2 owners in the last 72 years and only driven 300 miles since October l992. As a result, the car had to be recommissioned when I recently purchased it. The following has been accomplished: · Complete major tune up to include: plugs, points, rotor, distributor cap and spark wires. · Rebuild carburetor · Change all fluids: engine, transmission, rear end, radiator(antifreeze) · Drain and clean fuel system and installed new in line filter · Repack all wheel bearings · New Fan belt · Complete lubrication · Replace vacuum hoses for vacuum assist gear shift · Install new rear spring shackles · Replace differential gasket · Replace shock links · Replace front sway bar links · Partially rewired horn – This has the Town and Country horn system · Complete rebuild of braking system to include: Rebuild front and rear wheel cylinders, rebuild master cylinder, replace brake hoses, change brake fluid, and replace front brake shoes. The engine had a complete overhaul by a professional in 1983 and has only been driven less than two thousand miles since. The engine now idles as “quiet as a kitten”, and has a lot of power to cruise highway speeds. My wife and I took it on a car club cruise last weekend traveling 105 miles and it performed flawlessly, burning no oil. All instruments work to include speedometer, odometer, oil pressure, gas gage, temperature, and generator gage. All the lights work except the dome light which should be no problem in fixing. There is a clock installed in the glove compartment door that was added as an extra and never connected to the battery, therefor it does not work. There is a blanking plate to replace the clock included if you wanted to change it back. The clock would be an original extra when the car was new. It appears that a couple of fenders have been re-painted but the rest is original and buffed out very well. The car being 72 years old does have scratches, and nicks on the doors and finders where someone opened their door on them. There are 5 wide white wall tires, the spare still has the paper on it and the others are in like new condition and certainly not original to the car. The negatives: As would be expected in a car of this age, the transmission does have some leakage which indicates it probably need new seals. (dried out because of non-use?) The bumpers shine but there is some pitting. Moths have had some dinners on the upholstery, mostly on the front seat bottom, but can be covered with a nice car blanket like we had when my parents had a car like this. (Brings back memories!!) Oh yes – there are two dints about the size of a pencil eraser, one on the right rear fender and right rear door. I tried to take pictures of these but they would not come out because the of the shiny paint. If you are the winning bidder, you will be required to deposit $500.00 within 24 hours to my pay pal account and the balance by wire or certified check within 7 days. Shipping will be your responsibility but I will assist on this end. There is no warranty real or implied. I have disclosed all of the conditions relating to this 72 year old gem to the best of my abilities. If you are looking for originality in a solid car or want to make this a high point show car, this is for you. It has a 216.5 cu.in. engine with a three speed transmission, and has the reputation of being a real work horse. As the pictures show, this is a four door sedan. The car is located in Pinehurst NC and I welcome you to inspect in. Please contact me through e-bay and I will promptly reply. I reserve the right to end the auction early as this is being offered locally and through other publications. Thanks for looking; I hope you are the winning bidder! PS: One thing I did not mention, there is some delamination in the lower left corner of the windshield. Does not interfer with vision at all -- just adds to the antiquity of the car!
