Vehicle Detail

i would like to apologize to everyone for my previous listing ending prematurely. a fraudulent bidder hit the buy it now and ebay cancelled the auction and it took me a day to get it back. so here we go again... i have decided to sell my 1956 pontiac 870 station wagon. i am the third owner of this car. it's originally from southest colorado (it belonged to a doctor that made house calls). it was sold in 1991 to a couple in northern colorado. they kept it in their garage and drove it around the block a few times a year. they put less than 400 miles on it in the 15 years they owned it. i bought it from them in 2006. this is the higher end 870 wagon. it's pink (kinda coral) and white. original colors. one repaint decades ago. the interior is black and white. it's my understanding that it was redone decades ago as well, but i'm not positive. it has the original 316 v8, 4 barrel carb, dual exhaust, 4 speed hydramatic, power steering and power brakes. it also has the optional padded dash. the motor is strong as hell and the tranny shifts just fine. it brakes and steers pretty nice compared to a similar car without power steering and power brakes (ie most trifive chevys). the body is super solid with virtually no rust (the only rust through is in the corner of the driver side rear doorjamb). the floors and the spare reservoir are solid. it does, however, have it's share of bumps and scraps. nothing major, just evidence of years of use. the patina is awesome! it took me about a month to get it road worthy, and since then it has been my daily driver (it was my only car for 2 1/2 years). i never thought i would sell this car. i've done a lot to this car to keep it on the road and haven't cut any corners. i've spent thousands and have a folder full of receipts. i'll try to list the basics, but i'm sure i'll forget something... this is a list of things that've been done between 2006 and the present. a complete aluminized exhaust system installed from the manifolds back (magna flow mufflers) from exhaust specialties in portland, or. new american racing salt flat specials (with knock-offs) with bf goodrich silvertown widewhite radials. replaced the lefthand thread studs on the driver's side with righthand thread studs. new bearings and seals in the rear. new yoke and pinion seal. new brakes on rear. rebuilt complete front end with a master rebuild kit from kanter. driver's side spindle replaced with nos spindle (i have the passenger side nos spindle because the original didn't need replacing). master cylinder resleeved then rebuilt (booster hisses on occasion, but works just fine). the front brakes were redone just before i got it, so i haven't touched them (short of adjusting a couple times a year). the gas tank was pulled, boiled and lined. it has a new sending unit, rebuilt fuel pump and carb. i cleaned the lines and installed a filter between tank and pump and another between pump and carb. it got new motor mounts (all three). new belts and radiator hoses. new brakes hoses. after a couple years of messing with the original radiator, i pulled it and sent it to walker radiator. they made a new one using the stock one as an model. the original owner had a heater from another car installed years ago. it works, so i haven't messed with it. it also received new battery and leads, cap, rotor, coil, plugs and wires. i got tired of messing with the generator, so it got an alternator conversion. i added a cd/ipod player in the glove box with speakers built into the kick panels. accessory mooneyes oil/temp/volt gauges beneath the glove box. mooneyes tach on the column. all gauges work (even the gas). no horn though. new windshield and most of the door glass (although i got a rock chip in the windshield coming back from billetproof a couple years ago). i replaced the 56 steering wheel with a 1959 pontiac wheel (it took me a year to find one). sparetire is new and hasn't been on the road. the lakepipes are fully functional (and sound great!). the spots are dummies. the car has been lowered by cutting two coils in the front and 1 1/2" blocks in the rear with shaved bump stops. its low, but never bottoms out. my friend ian made the custom grill with 15 desoto grill teeth. it has 55 chevy taillights. the plates are restored year-of-manufacture. it is registered as special interest in oregon, so it never has to go back to the dmv. and the stickers... i grew up skating, not surfing. so i decided to fill the rear windows with skate stickers from the 80's. they are a real conversation piece. this car has been way more fun than a car should be. i've driven it all over the place. it's been to the oregon coast and mount hood. i drove it to the first billetproof washington as well as the third. i drove it to the bonneville salt flats for the 60th anniversary of speedweek in 2008. it's been all over the internet including deadend magazine 2008. it was just featured in scotty gosson's cartech book, america's coolest station wagons. my friends can't believe i'm putting it up for sale (and to be honest, i can't believe it either). but, it's time to thin the heard and this is the one that makes the most sense to let go. i have way more money and time into than i will get out of it. i believe my reserve to be fair and it's far less than i have in it. oh, and i almost forgot, i just put on a brand new set of coker widewhite radials less than a thousand miles ago. and i also have the parts for a disc brake conversion from scarebird! feel free to ask questions. thanks. clyde
