Vehicle Detail
You're looking at a 1984 VW Rabbit GTI. VW decided to put a "big" 1.8 liter fuel-injected engine into the Rabbit and created the original hot hatch in Europe in 1976. In 1979 VW upped the ante with a 1.8 liter engine. The car was introduced to the US market in 1982 to rave reviews--from Car & Driver to Consumer Reports. CR stated the GTI was "the quickest car they had tested in years". Road and Track called it the "best automotive news of the year." The Rabbit GTI is the ultimate 70s/80s small car. This is the car that killed the British sports cars like MG and Austin Healey, it was faster, more reliable, more fun, and had room for 4 people and luggage. This particular GTI is a survivor, the car is in great shape it is solid, there is some rust along the leading edge of the driver's door and there is some rust in the floors but there are no holes and the car can be jacked at the jacking points with no problem; and the shock/strut towers are solid. The interior is in very good shape, it's pretty amazing, the dash has no cracks and the seats have no tears. Someone sealed the sunroof with silicone at some point, I haven't touched it, but it probably needs a seal. It will need two tires soon. I've done a lot of work to get it to the wonderful driving condition it is in now, it has new spark plugs, new brake lines, new accelerator cable, new distributor cap and rotor, new wheel cylinders and brake master cylinder, and a few other things. The only thing that doesn't work right now is the blower motor, an easy fix on these cars. The car is a blast to drive! You drive this car--nice, honest manual steering very responsive, It's like a little go kart. The shifter is precise, and the clutch is in good shape. And the engine is smooth, powerful, and makes a cool sound. The compession is good. It sits on the original 14" alloy "snowflakes" wheels, if you want I can include 4 steelies with winter tires. I really don't want to sell this car but I need the money right now, the car can be seen in Delmont, PA near Pittsburgh 15626. Call 717-600-6614 with any questions you may have.
