Click any photo to enlarge! Click any photo to enlarge! Up for auction is my 1970 Pontiac GTO. This is a real (PHS documented) GTO, but a previous owner altered it to be a Judge tribute/clone. Installed are the rear wing, functioning hood tach, and stripes and decals. If you are looking for an all-original car, this ain’t it, but if you are looking for a strong, reliable driver with lots of very desirable upgrades, that is a blast to drive and really turns heads, here it is. This is a Southern California car and is as clean and rust free as you will ever find. The floorboards, trunk, bottom of fenders, quarters, rockers, and even the lower lip of the deck lid are spotless. It does have very light surface rust on some of the frame and such as it has never had the underside restored, but the surface rust it is just that - very light surface rust. No pitting, holes, or rot anywhere. Installed is a completely rebuilt 400. The 1970 block is bored .030 over, and the crank is .010 under. New pistons, bearings, oil pump, timing set, mild Crane cam (see specs here) and lifters, etc. It is topped with 1968 #16 heads. These are big valve heads with screw in studs and guide plates and were completely rebuilt. Also used is an Edelbrock performer RPM intake, Holley double pumper, new billet HEI with MSD wires, and a 2.5-inch mandrel bent exhaust. Of course all the details like new power steering pump, new internally regulated alternator, belts, hoses, fuel pump and filter, water pump, radiator, fan clutch, etc, were replaced as well. No detail has been overlooked to make this GTO a fun and reliable muscle car. All receipts are included! Sure, it goes, but it also stops! Factory disc in the front and drums in the rear. It has an 1988 G body small diameter dual diaphragm booster and a 1990 B body alum master. The stock booster still works great with the stock stuff since the factory hold off valve and proportionong valve are still in place. They also reduce weight and give more room in the engine bay. The car was originally an automatic but was converted to a 5 speed. A brand new Tremec TKO 600 was used as well as a Centerforce billet flywheel and a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch assembly. Rather than mess with the crappy mechanical clutch linkage that these cars originally come with, it was converted to a hydraulic clutch actuation system from Keisler engineering. A custom driveshaft had to be made in order to make the connection to the rear differential. In total about $4000 was spent on the transmission conversion alone, and it is possibly the best modification one could make to any classic car that you want to drive. The steep first gear makes the 3.42 gears in the rear feel like 4.10 off the line and the .64 overdrive 5th gear allows you to cruise at 70 mph and only turn 2000 rpm. Completing the drive train is a completely rebuilt 12 bolt rear from a 70 LS6 Chevelle. The rebuild included new clutches and bearings for the posi unit, new Richmond 3.42 gears, new Moser axles, a new yoke, and all bearings and seals. The housing itself was also sandblasted and primed and painted. In keeping with the "Resto Mod" theme, the firewall was smoothed and a complete Vintage Air Super Gen II system was installed, complete with Defrost and 4 lever control panel, so the entire heating & cooling system is new. Ice-cold air blows from this Vintage Air and is completely reliable here in the very humid Northeast summers. Other benefits to the system are reduced weight and it really un-clutters the engine bay. No "suitcase" on the firewall and the much smaller Sanden compressor really opens up the right side of the motor to ease maintenance, repairs, or modifications. Last, but not least, is the dash. An aluminum panel was fabricated and filled with all the necessary Auto Meter Phantom gauges. All gauges are dead accurate including the speedometer. Wired into the custom dash are turn signal indicators, high beam indicator, and a brake warning light. The gauges light and dim with the factory switch. Nothing hokey here. Everything works just like the factory intended, just much, much better. The whole dash cluster is also wired with one plug, so you can remove the screws around the perimeter, pull the cluster out, disconnect one plug, and have the whole cluster in your hand. Pretty slick, really. Completing the dash is a SIRIUS satillite Compatable detachable face JVC KD-AR310 CD-RW/MP3 player with 6x9 speakers mounted on the rear package shelf. This is a great running and driving car. You could fly in to Newark and drive it home to LA if you wanted. It’s not perfect. It is a really nice driver. It has a few scratches and chips here and there, but nothing the average person on the street would even notice. I have provided nearly 100 large photos so there are no surprises. Please ask any questions, or even better, stop by and inspect it in person if at all possible. Drive it and you will buy it! There's plenty of great driving weather left!! • New carpet with correct heel pad and correct Fisher entry sill plates from Ames Engineering. • Completely rebuilt front end with Polygraphite® bushings from Performance Suspension Technology (PST). • Pontiac Historical Society paperwork with reproduction window sticker. • Original build sheets included (Page 1, Page 2). • Dashboard cover from Ames Engineering. • All receipts included! • Full-size spare tire on Rally II wheel. • Click here for a ton of other full-size photographs! • Email me with any questions!
