Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a remarkably nice '72 Ford F-100 Custom. I purchased this truck in 2003 and drove it for about two summers daily until deciding on giving it a deserving restoration and making it more fun to drive in the process. It originally was from New Mexico and had a cap on the back, keeping the inside of the bed in great shape. I don't think this truck was ever used for real work and was mainly used for hunting/camping due to the shotgun shells and related stuff found in it when purchased. The truck was purchased from Southwest Mining, a dealer of muscle cars of southwest origin. The seller drove the truck from Albuquerque to Pittsburgh, when I purchased it. At that time it had around 95,000 miles on it. I will try to itemize the truck to the best of my ability below. Engine/Cooling During the restoration I removed the 400M engine in it which had low oil pressure and smoking issues. In it's place a 460 ci engine of Lincoln origin was put in it's place with new motor mounts. The engine has redone d0ve heads, engine block hot tanked and painted, new rod and main bearings, crank turned, Keith Black flat top pistons, Scorpion roller rockers, a high volume oil pump, 4x4 oil pan, an aggressive Lunati cam (I am looking for specs.) original style tall stamped valve covers, a Weiand stealth intake, Holley Street Avenger 770 custom jet kit/metering rods, Moroso rods, a full gasket set, Mallory ignition, Duraspark distributor (Includes HEI distributor not installed) Dark Force nickel plated headers, and a new fuel pump, Engine has less than 2000 miles on it since built in 2006. It has a custom HD radiator and all new hoses and thermostat and heater core. It runs strong and starts on the first try, no matter how long it sits. I'd estimate the horsepower in the realm of 400+. Included is a BRAND NEW custom bent 2 1/2 exhaust with Powerstick mufflers for that muscle-car sound. Transmission and drive line The truck had a major trans leak so I had the C-6 completely redone with B&M transpak race shift kit, added an external cooler, aftermarket dipstick and tube, and a new trans mount. The transmission has less than 2000 miles since built in 2006. The shop recommended a new torque converter so I had one custom built by Edge converters. It is a 3000 stall converter. It also has a Custom made drive shaft, and the original 9" differential with 31 spline 3.50 gears non-locking . Suspension/Brakes I wasn't happy with the manual drum brakes so I switched it to a later disc brake I-Beam with newer bearings/races and seals/newer calipers/brake hoses and lines aftermarket GM style power booster and dual master cylinder. It has newer rear drum brakes with spring kit. Radius arm bushings all new. New shocks in front/rear, and springs in the front. All new parts were from NAPA. Steering Converted to power steering with Bendix box and appropriate column. Has new Ford style power steering pump and lines and synthetic fluid. Body This truck was 98% rust free and spent most of it's life in the desert. The only rust repairs were small patches on each front fender smaller than a matchbook cover. The truck had large camper mirrors so I welded some old holes in the doors closed and shaved off the rear reflectors as well. The cab mounts/floors/inner fenders are very solid. I completely repainted the truck in 2004 stripping the truck down to the metal and removed the front clip and and doors. The inner fenders were painted with POR-15 and was the inside of the bed and tailgate. The entire truck was painted with a sealer, high build primer and base-coat clear-coat using PPG products, including the inside of the bed, inside of the doors and door jambs. The roof is a single stage PPG Wimbledon white. All colors are original. It has held up remarkably well. The entire truck was coated with a product called TST on the underside and the engine compartment to prevent any scaling or rust in the future. Both bumpers are re-chromed replacements and the the trim and chrome was polished before reinstalled during the restoration. It has NOS stainless west-coast mirrors. Interior It has a '92-96 F series bench seat with custom upholstery in eggshell white (like original), a custom tuck n roll style headliner, a NOS F600 gauge cluster with all custom street rod gauges, including vacuum, oil, water, volts, tachometer, fuel level and speedometer. It was installed at 100,000 so the mileage is accurate. In the process I relocated wiper switch to cluster. There is some wiring for audio is present but the truck has not had a radio for several years. Miscellaneous The old windshield was ruined from the desert so I had a new windshield and windshield seal installed with the chrome insert, installed an old stock rear sliding window and new seal, installed new door opening seals, and OEM stainless wiper blades. The truck as '67 Fairlane wheel covers and trim rings on orignal wheels with recent 25570R15 tires for a stock appearance. Some photos show the old tires, the truck has black walls with the white letters turned in. I installed a powder-coated '69 sport grille with aftermarket bullets. It is a stainless grille so could be stripped and polished if desired. Bad Stuff This truck has been sitting for months at a time since about 2005. I periodically would start it up and drive it around the block or to the store. It will fire up and run like a champ but needs some odds and ends since it really hasn't been driven on a regular basis for about six years. I noticed that the fuel gauge inoperative. It has a replacement sender so I suspect there is a bad ground to the fuel tank as it did work. I will look into what the problem may be. The tachometer needs hooked up to the distributor - I will also try to correct this. There is no radio and needs speakers if so desired. The oil dipstick needs to be replaced though I have a new one with the tube. There is a repairable dent in end of hood and some marks in the paint from storage. Some of the chrome has developed some pits as well. It's not a perfect truck but could be with some work. I would suggest that potential buyers plan on bringing a trailer to get this truck to it's destination. It could be driven home but hasn't been drive for more than 15-20 minutes in awhile. This truck is very fast and was built to be a sleeper, with an unassuming "grandpa's farm truck" appearance. I haven't seen too many in this configuration. The starting bid is at my original purchase price in 2003, no reserve. I guesstimate my investment in truck in upwards of $12,000, so please spare me the story of you being able to get the same truck for $800. On Sep-08-11 at 16:34:16 PDT, seller added the following information: I just lowered the reserve from reasonably priced to "giving it away". This truck MUST SELL! Buy it and finish it, it's an easy project.
