Vehicle Detail
Chevrolet 1955 Delray Protouring This is a very rare model. The "Delray" was an option for the "210" model. The Delray was produced far less than any other model including Belair's. Body This car is a completely rust free survivor. The body was taken off the frame in 2000. The body was clean enough for just a repaint. The fenders, floors, trunk and frame are in new original condition! I looked for a car and flew across the US. to find a project car as clean as this one. Yes you will find many restorations with replaced everything. This one is original! Once the body was painted, new glass, molding, window mechanisms, felts, nuts and bolts were replaced. All of the windows work perfectly! Go around and look at some of these restorations. The back windows will most times not be working. The entire wiring harness was replaced and upgraded to plastic push fuses. The wipers are upgraded to electric. The radio was not cut out and there is an audio sound original FM replacement with Kenwood speakers. The antenna is upgraded. It has most of the Vintage air AC installed. I have it out to upgrade the radio currently. It has tilt wheel, B&M mega shifter, 59' corvette 15" mahogany steering wheel. Complete new interior (perfect). They stopped reproducing the complete interiors last year for Delray's. Every nut and bolt was replaced. Two mods were done to the body. The spare tire was filled in and the wheel wells were professionally mini tubbed. You cannot tell it was done. It looks factory! Everything on this car works! Speedo, interior light, revers lights etc. Paint is starting to show a little wear and tear. The car sat in a heated garage in PA since 2003 and was only driven to the big car show since it was completed in 2003. 500mi since it was finished. He was not the most gentleman. Has a few nicks here and there. I think it has a great patina overall. the car is the original Skyline Blue and India Ivory top. The interior is in the factory colors as well. Car has all of the factory emblems in place. It was also a factory V8 car and has the appropriate emblems on the rear. Frame The frame was smoothed and painted black. The rear leafs were removed and a four link rear suspension installed. It has a coil over shock conversion with new QA1 adjustable shocks. I scaled the car to get the springs rates correct. 2" spring drop. She only weighs 3780 lbs. That’s less than a new Porsche GT2! She is NOT heavy! The gas tank, brake lines, fuel lines are new. The rear axle is a custom housing with the correct mounts and 11" backing plates. New 9" posi with strange axles. Drive shaft is new and balanced. All new rear brake parts and working e-brake! The front suspension was upgraded with a Jim Myers IFS front suspension kit. Coil over QA1 adjustable shocks. Rack and Pinion upgrade with power steering. Power brake conversion. 2" drop spindles. BEAR drilled and slotted rotors. Wilwood rotors. This car steers very easy. Quick ratio rack. Front sway bar kit. Brakes are unbelievable! The frame is painted black and gets waxed every winter. It is flawless. This car really needs to go on a lift to be appreciated. The transmission has a dual mount. It fits either a Turbo 350 or a 700r4. Trans New turbo 350 with a stall converter and shift kit. B&M mega shifter. Motor Fresh 350. Rear LT1 heads. Have all casting numbers. Roller rockers with matched cam etc. The intake was leaking when I purchased the car. The special headers were not coated. I took it all apart to reseal and upgrade everything. So I had the headers Jet Hot coated and stage 8 locking header bolts. I replaced and upgraded the ignition with MSD box and billet distributor. The intake is a new edelbock air gap high rise. All gaskets are the best Felpro gaskets. New street avenger 660 Holley Duel Feed electric Choke. K&N air filter, fabricated valve covers, new billet v-belt set up. Billet pulleys, Alt, and polished ac compressor. Electric fan etc. What all this boils down to....Car starts so easy it's scary. Let it sit on high idle for a minute, kick it down and it idles easy and lumpy! Not smoke at any time. It makes driving this car such a pleasure. Taking the time to get the motor dialed in really pays off. Most carb cars and performance motors have issues all over the place. Not this one. It's perfect! I'm sure I'm missing something but you get the point. Exhaust 3" mandrel bent true duals with stainless tips. Flowmaster 40's and all welded. Wheels Brand new design Boyd Coddington Old School finish wheels. 18 x 8 in front and 20 x 10 in the rear. These wheels were custom built for the backspacing I wanted and took five months to build. They do not rub anywhere at any time. The tires wear chosen for the correct side wall, width, speed rating etc. Turns out they are the factory tires for the new Porsche GT2. This car rides firm but does not jar you and does not rattle. If you like a softer ride the shocks can be dialed down to make more of a floating ride. Currently the setting is in the middle. The car has zero sway and has no complaints from passengers for ride quality. I spent most of the summer making sure the car was completely dialed in. Fresh alignment to Jim Myer specs. Our roads in New England are terrible and so far it has not scraped or bottom out anywhere. E-mail any questions. stevelando330@hotmail.com. This car has not been thrown together to flip. My MO has been to build the car as I see it in my head, not what my wallet can afford. If it takes years to finish, it takes years to finish. I take pride saying the cars I sell are dialed in. That means stance, motor quality, drivability etc. This car needs no excuses. Fuel and go. She is sick!
