Vehicle Detail

OK, I lowered the buy it now price by $500; and this is now a "no reserve auction." I bought this classic Triumph last summer from the original owner, who was a 75-year old retired machinist. He hadn't ridden it much in the past few years and it was in need of some cosmetic restoration. The paint had faded so much the primer was showing through on the gas tank. I owned a 1970 Tiger 650 for 24 years and I thought that I could restore it over the winter (it took longer than I anticipated, just finished it). This Triumph was built in May of 1972, so it benefited from the major revision Triumph did to the rear of the frame; it sits much lower than the earlier 1971-72 oil-in-frame models. It has the desirable 5-speed transmission and the engine/frame numbers match. The owner installed a heavy-duty clutch and racing valves and springs. He also installed an oil filter (easily removed, if desired), as the stock oil filtration system consists of a wire screen. Other than these mechanical upgrades, it is a stock machine. It is really fast, much faster than the 1970 Tiger 650 I owned for 24 years. It starts on the first kick which is a good thing, since I am 65 years old and only weigh 125 lbs. He ran it with the side covers removed and velocity stacks on the twin carbs, with megaphone mufflers (see last 3 photos). They are included, along with the stock side covers and original mufflers. When he purchased it in 1972, it was painted solid gold metalflake (no stripes or scallops) by the dealership. I bought a used rear fender to replace the original one (he'd welded an adftermarket tail light on it), as I preferred the stock taillamp. It was in excellent condition and was painted a cinnamon red metalflake that I liked, so I had the tank and front fender painted to match it. It's a little darker red than the pictures show. I also had new tires and tubes mounted and the wheels balanced. Other things I have done to it include changing the engine and primary chaincase oil, changing the gearbox oil, replacing the front spindle caps with ones made from billet aluminum, replaced both exhaust header pipes with a high quality set, replaced all the rubber parts with new (footpegs, kick starter, etc.), replaced the gas cap, put in a new battery, tightened the chains, adjusted the valves, installed a new mirror, installed a new oil cap/dipstick, replaced the fuel petcocks, and replaced many washers, bolts, and nuts with new ones, purchased new air filters, and did a lot of cleaning and polishing. All the electricals work as they should. It also has a chrome steel plate for the license plate. It is ready to go, I've ridden it around the neighborhood, and the brakes are good. There are various misc. parts that I will include (gaskets, old gas cap, various bolts & nuts & bulbs). The original tool bag, with a few tools, is also included. I will also give the buyer a copy of the Triumph workshop manual, a Haynes workshop manual, and the factory parts manual. The seat is in very good condition, just one small 1/2 inch tear low down and is barely noticeable. The chrome on the bike is in very good to excellent condition. The front wheel has several small places where the chrome has come off, but the rear wheel is perfect. The rubber boot coming from the headlight is torn, but I have a new one ready to install. Did anyone notice that I forgot to put the clamps on the rubber boots running from the carbs to the side panels when I took the pics? If you have been looking for a classic Triumph with a little bit of patina, then this could be your new ride. I believe that I am asking a fair price for this motorcycle, I have a stack of receipts for all of the parts I've put on it. My labor in restoring it, if I sell it for the buy it now price, comes out to about a dollar an hour. I didn't plan on selling it when I finished restoring it, but I now have a medical condition that will prevent me from riding and enjoying it in the near future. My misfortune is someone else's good luck. Shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer; however, I will render any assistance that I can. If you want to ride it home, I'll be happy to pick you up at the airport. If you want more pictures or pics of a certain area, let me know and I'll be happy to send them to you.
