At the time he had just retired from building race car engines and gone into the commercial engine business - and I had read all about him over the years in "Car Craft" magazine. I provided him with a rare aluminum 4 barrel Z-28 intake, the the rest of the engine was brand new. It was built to my specs (with bow-tie aluminum heads), balanced, and blueprinted. Before installing, I had the engine compartment painted with the appropriate black epoxy paint. I was experiencing some alternator problems after about 10,000 miles on the new engine, so I took it to a 24 hour garage - where the car was stolen that evening (by an employee). It was recovered the very next day after a short joy ride (but not after damage to the back bumper, front bumper/grille, and minor interior near the radio slot). I was actually not informed about the car being recovered for about 7 weeks - but did eventually get the car back (long story). I drove it directly to my mother's garage in Ft. Washington, from the police recovery lot, and it's been there ever since. I've recently contacted Ryan Gledhill at Lingenfelter Engineering and they said although the engine would probably start up right away, "...the right way to do it would be to tear it down, clean it, and put it back together with assembly lube." I wish I could restore it myself, but unfortunately I don't have the time to do it properly. It needs quite a bit of metal work (quarter panels, floorboards, etc), but the frame is straight and strong. The odometer has 61,530.2 but I disconnected it at that mileage. I've calculated the mileage to be between 110-125,000. The Engine has between 10-11,000 miles. On Aug-26-11 at 07:43:51 PDT, seller added the following information: www.johndc.com/camaro In one of the questions I say "The truck is not rusted..." But I mean "The TRUNK is not rusted..."
