Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a beautiful 1982 BMW R65LS that is in virtually perfect condition. It has had 3 owners from new and has 29k original miles. This is a rare model with only 6,300 built between '82-'84. Most of them were Henna red...this is the rarer (and IMO better looking) Polaris silver. Besides the battery, tires, oil, and filters, nothing on this bikehas been replaced...even the brake lines are dated "1981" (and are still in excellent uncracked cond.). This is a very early LS that was built in Dec. '81, and it has ATK front brake calipers instead of the Brembos that were used on later LSs. It also came with black valve covers...later ones had silver ones, and black LS decals...later ones had blue ones. It also comes with the original owner's manual (which is water damaged from sitting under the seat for an unknown period of time), the original documents pouch from Capitol BMW in Wash. DC, a letter from the dealership congratulating the first owner on his purchase (letter is dated May 1982), a list of BMW dealerships in the US, and a list of spare parts available from BMW USA. The original owner was a German gentleman from Arlington, VA...obviously a guy with impeccable good taste. The bike has a new battery (note...the underseat storage compartment comes with the bike...it was removed to show the new battery), 3 year-old Bridgestone Battleax tires that are in perfect condition, fresh Castrol oil and BMW filter, new Bosch spark plugs, and a new BMW air filter. It starts immediately, runs and handles beautifully, idles perfectly, has excellent throttle response, and pulls smoothly to redline. It still has its sparkling fresh original paint (even has its original "Wear your helmet" sticker on top of the gas tank). The paint finish on the wheels still looks good (a few areas of minor paint wear are visible). I would not hesitate to ride this bike coast-to-coast. It has never been in an accident...it takes sharp curves in the road like it is on rails. It has always been garaged and covered...even the redline on the tach looks like new (tachs on these bikes normally are very faded). The original BMW tool kit is complete and looks nearly new (obviously seldom used). The mufflers are original and have rust-through areas at the bottom rear on both sides (these are still available new from BMW...or they can be patched), but they are still very quiet. The seat has two minor scuffs, and the tail panel, left side panel, front fairing, and front fender have very minor scratches that do not justify a repaint (it would be a shame to alter such a beautiful original). It has Accel ignition coils and wires to replace the problematic Bosch originals...they can be easily sourced here on Ebay. The rare folding gas cap still looks new and functions perfectly, and the two original keys still lock and unlock everything as they should. The original shocks still perform flawlessly and still have their original yellow inspection paint marks visible. I hate to sell this stunning bike, but I have been cut off on the road too many times by morons texting on cell phones...after 35 years of riding I have decided to switch to an old sports car for my vehicular thrills. I prefer local pickup (I'm in the Columbus metro area), but will work with you if you want to ship it (shipping cost will be determined after the auction closes). You must make a $500 down payment via Paypal within 48 hours of the close of the auction or I will relist it and give you bad feedback. Final payment will be when you come to pick it up (cash only...no cashier's checks or money orders), or if you decide to ship it, then send me a cashier's check and we will wait for it to clear my bank (normally 3-5 business days). The bike is sold with no warranty...it is a 30 year-old bike. If you get here and you feel it has been misrepresented, I will refund your down payment. No refunds for a buyer who doesn't look at it beforehand (please note...450 perfect feedbacks...yes, I'm very honest). I can be reached at 614/769-5868 if you have any questions. The reserve is very reasonable (no, I won't tell you what it is). Oh yes, the Deutschland license plate stays with the bike! Good luck on your quest!
