Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I'm selling my very nice, very fast 1981 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler. I bought this Jeep a couple of years ago locally and have maintained it in great condition, garage kept. I have over $16,000 invested, so my loss is your gain, I'm just ready to move on to another challenge. I'll try to be as honest as possible in describing it, if there is anything else, please ask. If you want to inspect it, you're welcome to come see and drive it. The Jeep is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction at anytime. Serious bidders only. $500 deposit due with 48 hours of the end of the auction through PayPal. Balance to be paid in cash when you pick it up, within 10 days unless you make other arrangements. The actual mileage is unknown, but both the engine and transmission were rebuilt and installed at the same time (3 years ago). From that time there have only been 4,000 miles put on it. I had to put a number in the spot where Ebay asked for it. So the title will be marked accordingly. Clear North Carolina title in my hand. Now for the good stuff: Overall: This Jeep is solid and powerful. I've never taken it off-road, but it is built to handle off-road. I have used it as my daily driver during warmer seasons and it runs on the road perfectly. In my opinion this Jeep is too nice to abuse and it would make a great candidate for a full restoration. Powertrain: It's got a powerful AMC 401 V8, bored .030 over, mild towing cam, Edelbrock aluminum 4 barrel intake with a new Edelbrock 650 CFM carb. New Mallory HEI distributor. The engine has about 4,000 miles on it and has no problems and plenty of power! Chrome valve covers and a new Edelbrock chrome air cleaner really set this thing off under the hood. Oversized Flexlite fan keeps it cool on the hottest days. M.O.R.E. bombproof motor mounts keep the torque under control. Power supplied by a yellow top Optima battery sitting in a new stainless steel battery tray. Locking hood keeps prying eyes and hands away. Custom built dual exhaust with glasspack mufflers gives the 401 that classic Jeep V8 sound. It has a modified T19, 4 speed transmission. The modification is that it has a 5.11-1 first gear. If you're not familiar with a T19, it's the almost exactly like the famous T18 except first gear is synchronized on the T19. The transfer case is the best one Jeep offered in the CJ's, the Dana 300. This is the original transfer case to this Jeep, rebuilt with all new seals before installation. Is also converted to a twin stick shifter. This gives you the option of using 2 wheel low range. It also makes shifting in and out of 4WD much easier. New heavy duty custom built Tom woods drive shafts...the best in the business. The axles are stock to this Jeep. The previous owner had one piece axles installed in the rear end. Other than that I assume they are stock. Gear ratio is 3.73. Original locking hubs function properly. Suspension: Superlift Softride 2-1/2" lift. It included all new springs, shocks, and bushings. Replaced front spring hangers at the same time. Previous owner was a machinist by trade and made a set of heavy duty shackles out of pre heat treated toolsteel. They will not fail!! All new U-bolts and grade 8 hardware used during installation. Previous owner also fabricated a longer set of sway bar links to accomodate the 2-1/2 inch lift. They are not quick disconnect as not planned for serious off roading. The Jeep comes with factory power steering. Body and Frame: The frame is solid as a rock with no rust anywhere and no signs of any cracking or repairs. There was a trailer hitch welded in the back that was cut off, and it did have big chrome nerf bars on the side that were also removed at some point. It appears they were welded in place and cut off, so you will see a plate where they were welded to the frame, but it's painted black and hardly noticeable. The body is solid and rust free aside from a small dent on the back driver side corner from a small dent, hardly even noticeable. I can see no evidence of any major body damage or repairs. The left front fender does have a minor crease right in the front. It looks like someone lightly tapped it back in place and tried to match the semi-faded yellow paint. Again, if I hadn't pointed it out you might not have noticed. Otherwise the body is straight with only a few minor chips in the paint from from highway rocks. I installed new stock height poly body bushing throughout. The bed was lined with rino liner or equivalent but could use some touch up. The Jeep has the original half hard top, 2 original hard doors, full soft top and 2 full soft doors. Interior: Interior is hurculined to hide all the yellow paint the previous owner had applied!! The floorboards are solid with no sign of repair. Seats are stock highback buckets with black neoprene covers, also have 2 new seats compatible with 5 point seat belts. The 5 point seat belts are installed in the front 2 seats. I have a rear seat and cover but have never installed it. Not sure if all the brackets are here. The doors have aluminum diamond plate interior panels. There's a new aftermarket dashpad. Stainless gauge trim. Sony stereo with CD and 2 new in dash speakers. New column mounted tachometer. Nice 3 spoke steering wheel from a Wagoneer. New glove box. New bestop locking center console, but the lock needs to be replaced. Tires and wheels: The tires are Uniroyal Larado M/S tread. I'm not sure of the make of the aluminum wheels that are on it. The spare wheel does not match the other four. I assume it is the original spare. Now for the bad: Interior lights do not work except for the added tachometer, and the gas gauge does not work. I had them both working at one point but when they stopped again it was not a big enough issue for me to repair them. I have kept this in great shape and there are no other known issues. Again used it as my daily driver and had no problems, have even driven it to the beach and back (4 hours each way including part of I-95!)
