Vehicle Detail
I am selling my awesome 1983 Jeep Scrambler. I've had this Cj8 for over three years. I did a complete frame off restoration on it. I've probably driven it less than a thousand miles since its completion. As I built this Cj, I wanted it to look unlike any I had seen. As you know, Scramblers are pretty are rare, so it's not hard to make one stand out. But I think this one is very unique and you won't find another like it anywhere. I wanted it to have the appearance and capability of a rock crawler, but still maintain the stock drivetrain that made Cj's famous. This Jeep runs and drives down the road very well, but you can take it onto the trails and it will perform great. The pictures speak for themselves, but here's what I've done: Drivetrain: unstoppable inline 6 (258) with all new accessories: power steering pump, alternator, carburetor ( BBD, new not reman), aluimum intake, HEI distributor, water pump, radiator, two redtop optima's with tray, fuel pump, all new fuel lines, new stainless steel, braided brake lines replacing all original lines, plugs and wires, starter, tread plate Flowmaster and all new exhaust. Literally everything but the brake master cylinder. I have the T-5, 5-speed transmission with a hurst shifter installed. And a Dana 300 transfer case with twin sticks. The axles are stock, Dana 35 up front and an Amc 20 in the rear. Both axles have been trussed and re-geared (3:55). I believe the 20 has one piece shafts. It has 4" springs installed, and I am running 36" Irok radials (20-30% tread left) with 17" pro-comp wheels. I believe it would clear bigger, but 36's look perfect and don't rub at all. The body: is 100% rust free. This Cj-8 should be an advertisement for Poison Spyder. I've installed their crusher corner/side armor, steps/rock sliders and their tube fenders. I had a fender flare welded onto the corner/side piece and then had it powder coated to match the rock slider. The tube fenders are just sprayed with bed liner paint. I had the bed area and floorboards spray bed lined recently. I used Rhino liner. It looks fantastic. The floorboards had a few minor pin holes on both sides, so I put some fiber strips in it before I lined it. It just added strength and made it a very solid floor. One of the coolest features on this Jeep, in my opinion, is the grill. I got it off a Cj-10(aircraft tug, headlights were in the fenders, not the grill). So it's a 10 slot grill, not a seven and there are no holes for the headlights. I think it gives it a very clean and custom look. I have a good friend who has a 4x4 and fab shop locally. He made a sweet custom front bumper that we installed lights in, to be used as the new headlights and marker lights (see pics). He also made a custom rear bumper for it, as well as helped in alot of the assembly over the years. The original frame had some rust in it, so I found a new one for it from an '82 model. I ground it down and painted it with bed liner spray paint. It looks great. I also just had the entire body (parts not covered with the armor) painted a dark gray. It looks very sharp. The interior: the seats look very nice. The driver has a small split, but that's all. They have "cj" stamped in the headrest. I kept the gauge cluster all stock and haven't replaced anything on it. The speedo works, but not the fuel or oil??. It has a tilt steering column. No a/c. Dash is almost perfect. One small finger nail size split in it. On the whole, it looks like any other Cj. There are few "areas of improvement" that I'm still working on. Nothing major. I'm missing the correct shifter cover, brakes are a little soft and I'm still dialing in the new carb. It's only a week old. I have a hard half top that is included. It's in perfect shape. It is painted black. And I have a set of hard doors. They are in decent shape. I've actually never had them on the Jeep. Overall, I think this is a "one of a kind" Scramber. I don't believe there is another like it. I went out of my way to make it that way. I have over $15k in it right now. I think in a good economy, it'd bring over that. I know it's not perfect, but perfect ones are well over $20k. I am selling this to get some cash to help fund my first love ('78 Scout). I had to decide which to keep. Tough decision, but I have two kids and the back seat w/seatbelts won.
