Vehicle Detail

Very nice Matchless in Candy Apple Red. 1968 was the last year of the G15 and probably the last year of Matchless and AJS Motorcycles. It is thought that only 50 CSR's were manufactured in 1968, which makes this model very rare and desirable. Prior to 1968 the CSR models had lower handlebars and rear set foot rests, thus the '68 model is unique. Easy starter, runs great, riden a number of occasions at the Matchless Owners Annual Rally. Has completed approx 4000 miles since restoration. Engine and transmission have been fully restored. Engine: New Superblend main bearings / new rod bearings / pistons coated / new rings / new valves and springs / Boyer electronic ignition and Power Box / new carbs / screw on cartridge oil filter. Gearbox: Bearings, bushes and springs replaced with Norvil premium kit (special Superblend layshaft bearing). Other items. Frame: sealed headstock ball bearings / Forks rebuilt - new tubes, bushes & seals. Paint: Candy Apple Red applied by a professional, some chippage behind the screws of toolbox / oil tank side panels, some rubbing of the toolbox behind the side panel. Seat came from Roger Leighton in England. Both instruments look great and work. Wheels are original and in good condition (not claiming them to be perfect). Headlamp is Halogen type, good for night time riding. Mufflers are of the Gold Star design and sound good, however, if the purchaser requires I would be prepared to swap for a nice pair of the Dominator Cigar style, which I believe were correct for 1968. The G15 range, known has the Hybrid's, used the best of Matchless and Norton parts. Frame, fuel tank, oil tank and toolbox are Matchless. Engine, gearbox, Roadholder forks, wheels and brakes are Norton. You get the reliability of the Norton Atlas engine with the fabulous fuel tank and syling of Matchless. The heavier furnace brazed Matchless frame, is attributed to significantly reducing engine vibration verses the same engine in the Norton Atlas. All parts used in the restoration of this bike came from Premium suppliers: Walridge / Norvil / Leighton. The following is feedback for a G15 Mk2 I sold last year. "Completely professional in every aspect. Outstanding eBayer. A++++" and for a Bonneville, "This seller is fantastic. Above in beyond in ensuring satisfaction". My only negative feedback was from an Australian who bought two small items and wanted to renegotiate the price after the sale had ended. I cancelled the sale. The following, added Aug 1, addresses questions I have had on VIN number. Engine # is G15CSR 123406, frame 123406. According to the Norvil Website, 123364 was produced Aug 1967. I estimate my 123406 would have been built October or November 1967 for the 1968 model year. Title shows it as a 1969, but that is typical of bikes sitting in dealer showrooms for a year or more. The following, added Aug 3, addresses a question I had on the tank. EBay publishes Q&A, when you go into photo enlarge mode The original photo of the tank had what appeared to be blemishes in the paint, this was only reflection of the trees above. The tank is much better than the photographer (self), an additional photo has been added to show the quality of the tank paint, but with good quality paint it is difficult to avoid reflections.
