Vehicle Detail

1973 DATSUN 240Z One family owned (1973-2010) VIN # HLS30124187 Last year of the venerable 240Z's five year production run. (1969-1973) Purchased new on 11/02/72 in San Jose, CA., from Downtown Datsun. A garaged & pampered, no pets, non-smoker owned Z that was loved and weekend driven an incredibly low 36,244 miles! The original owner passed on to his reward in 1999 and bequeathed the Z to his beloved wife who then owned it for the next 12 years. Acquisition was then facilitated to me by a surviving family member. A remarkable example in exceptional condition throughout, this 240Z is essentially a "survivor". It presents in 90% original condition. Original documentation to corroborate the vehicles ownership history includes: service records, pre-delivery inspection report, supplemental equipment operation pamphlets, original extended warranty document (5/50,000 coverage) sold by Downtown Datsun, warranty book w/the plastic Datsun issued warranty registration card, copy of the original owners title w/the same corresponding name as the warranty card in addition to the owners manual which was typewritten filled out on the day of delivery. This Z has been carefully owned, driven and meticulously dealer maintained. Select components have been replaced when deemed necessary or required for the proper operation & benefit of the car given to age and/or wear. All documented. The 240Z is incredibly straight, all seams align as they did upon leaving the factory. It has never been in so much as a fender bender, however, after 38 years, the factory Datsun code (901) Silver Mist paint, was beginning to wear thin in areas. Given the exemplary condition of the Z's interior, mechanics & rock solid body, I decided to have the car professionally repainted. All trim, glass, gaskets, weather stripping, lights, emblems, bumpers, grill, valance, headlight buckets, wipers, cowl, etc., were removed. The preparation commenced with the car then being completely hand sanded down to metal. All miscellaneous body dings were properly repaired. ( I have pics documenting the entire process) The Z was then fully primed and hand sanded. Three (3) PPG base coats of Datsun paint code (901) Silver Mist were applied, allowed to dry and then block sanded before 2 clear coats were applied and sanded. The final stage was to then polish the finish to a mirror reflection. The finish is excellent and far better than the factory provided. The individual responsible for painting the Z is an artist as well as a close family friend who has painted vehicles that have undergone complete rotisserie restorations. His cars have sold at Barrett Jackson, Scottsdale. He is modest, for he knows his abilities, though he is quick to interject that whomever shall own the Z, will not fully appreciate the paint quality until they are physically standing next to it. It's that nice! The original black interior is complete and in near mint condition. I say...near mint, for last Winter did not pass without the 240Z developing its first & only slight dash crack. :-( (see pic) I have provided a Dash Topper fabric cover, as I don't care for "dash caps. The seats are in excellent condition, having always been covered. To minimize road sound, I have installed thicker insulation beneath the carpeting, however, I did not glue them in place. All safety features are fully functional. Everything is operable from the clock which keeps accurate time down to the seat belt warning light/buzzer which indicates in each gear if one neglects to fasten the seat belt before commencing to drive. The original Hitachi AM/FM radio plays as it did when new. All rubber gaskets & weather stripping are soft & pliable. Perfect wood steering wheel. Both front & rear bumpers are in excellent condition. All original Nissan glass. The Datsun is fully "numbers matching"...the engine compartment is immaculate...the motor has never been altered or modified. The factory SU (Skinners Union) carbs which are occasionally tempermental on these Z's, are properly jetted for the altitude here in Colorado. A compression test indicates 162-168 in each cylinder. The original 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly in all forward gears & reverse. The Z was just fully "Summerized"...this consisted of new: belts, hoses, lines, filters, distributor, thermostat, plugs, wires, points, cap, rotor & all fluids. There are NO annoying drips or leaks. The brakes were just serviced, this consisted of a system flush, the front rotors were turned, new ceramic pads, the rear drums were machine turned. The wheel & tire set up I chose for the 240 consists of 4 new old stock (never used) Datsun 280ZX Turbo 15" alloy wheels. All 4 tires are brand new Falken 225/50-15" performance radials. (30,000 mile rated) 4 new Tokico struts & urethane bushings. The original Bridgestone spare, 240Z jack (w/decal of a Z car on the jack), tire tool, wheel chocks, lug nuts for the spare & storage pouch are included. The original 14" steel wheels & Datsun hub caps are available. Original factory Datsun rubber floor mats are included...try to find those! In addition, an original sales brochure, keys and an original 1973 Datsun factory service manual will be included. All factory affixed decals & tags are present. The Z looks, runs & drives great. It stretches its legs effortlessly to 100 mph. It handles any road with precision and stops with assurance. It is a sports car from an era when cars provided a sensory driving experience. Guaranteed to be ZERO RUST!! The 240Z is ready to be driven & shown with pride of ownership. Everywhere it goes, it garners compliments and makes people smile! Please examine the pictures and feel free to call with any questions, I am readily available. Given my schedule, I respond to my phone quicker than I reply to email(s). Please have your funding in place prior to placing your bid. Thank you. Please consult with your spouse, therapist, pet or Magic 8-Ball, prior to placing your bid as I am not running a clinic for the confused. Thank you. You are bidding to purchase the 240Z, not to be the first to, "look at it". Inspections are welcomed and will be facillitated for serious buyers prior to the conclusion of the auction. If you are "new" to eBay, have zero or negative feedback, you will need to contact me by phone, prior to placing a bid, otherwise...your bid will be cancelled. Thank you. An initial payment of $1000.00 is required within 24 hours of auction close via PayPal. The balance is then due & payable within 7 days thereafter, under condition and arrangement made between myself and the buyer. I also require that the buyer contact me by phone within 24 hours of auction close. Open communication is the key to a successful eBay experience for both parties. Thank you. I prefer a legitimate bank to bank wire transfer. It provides a documented record of the transaction for both parties. Thank you. I am not a dealer or a professional eBayer. I am a collector/hobbyist that is downsizing my collection. I have honestly & accurately represented the condition of the Datsun. Those that have purchased my vehicles have had their expectations exceeded and are consistantly very pleased with their cars. Given that the 240Z is 38 model years old, it is sold in "as is" condition with no expressed or implied warranties. eBay provides for just 24 photographs. I have selected pictures that best present a thorough overview of the car. If you would like any area specific pictures, simply request them. The photographs were taken the fourth week of July, 2011. This past Spring...I offered an incredible 240Z. If you happened to view it, you recall how nice it was. I ended the auction early, selling it in less than one day! Other than individual nuances between the cars, this Z is every bit as nice! The Datsun and I are located in the Colorado Springs vicinity. Transportation and/or delivery is the sole responsibility of the buyer. I am confident that the Datsun could be driven home to anywhere. If you elect to fly in and drive home, I will gladly pick you up at the Colorado Springs Airport. I can also recommend a reputable shipper if one is needed. Trailered delivery is possible for $1000.00 in the lower 48 states. (non-negotiable) Buyers from the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand & Japan are welcome and encouraged to bid with confidence. I have set a reasonable reserve for the 240Z. It is commensurate with the car, the cars condition, the ownership history, the miles, the present economy and the present collector market. Please do NOT ask me what the reserve is, as I will not disclose it. Bid what you can afford and are willing to pay. Thank you. The Z has been gone through from bumper to bumper...if there is a cleaner, low mileage, original example available for the money...buy it. If you would like to present an offer or discuss a "buy it now"...call me directly to do so. Thanks for looking and good luck when you bid! Jeff (719)492-1234, c
