Offered for sale: Stunning, pristine, 1989 MB 560SL Before describing this vehicle I should inform potential bidders that my hobby is refurbishing MB 560 SL's. I am a perfectionist by nature so I purchase only high quality cars and then bring them as close to perfection as possible while keeping the price of the vehicle affordable. I do most of the work myself, giving great attention to those "niggling details" that most dealers and owners ignore. Every vehicle undergoes a 57 point inspection involving the engine, electrical system, interior, exterior, and trunk, prior to being offered for sale. This ensures that the buyer is purchasing a quality automobile with "no surprises". Any items not repaired (such as cruise control, etc.) are noted in the vehicle description. I have purchased over 25 vehicles online and would like to offer the following advice to assist buyers in their purchase: 1. No used vehicle is perfect- therefore you should consider vehicles whose sellers have disclosed ALL items needing attention. 2. Consider the sellers EBAY ratings- the greater the number of ratings the better. 3. Vehicle mileage is NOT the sole criteria to consider when purchasing a vehicle. THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IS THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE'S HISTORY! With that in mind the following is a description of the vehicle: 1989 MB 560 SL V-8 Rare Garnett red, original paint, gray interior, black soft top. Several owners, always garaged, mint condition-almost appears to have been in a "time capsule"!! I use the words "time capsule" judiciously.. but I have to use it in my description of this fine motorcar. This magnificent and rare Garnett Red 560 SL is simply stunning in every detail! Less than 5700 miles per year since sold new. It comes fully loaded with all options and a GEORGEOUS set of chromed alloy wheels! The body on this vehicle is simply pristine! this car has always lived a life indoors and it shows! Minor scratches (of which there are very few) have been touched up using the proper technique. There are no dings. All the trim pieces on the car are like brand new. The chrome bumpers are bright and blemish free. I have invested countless hours of "sweat equity" to bring the chrome wheels up to a near pristine condition. The only defect I find is slight loss of plating on the right front wheel. In fact that is the ONLY defect I have detected!! The top was recently replaced and looks to be a factory Mercedes top...simply flawless!! The plastic windows are clear and unblemished. The interior looks almost BRAND NEW, though it is 100% original!! The leather hides are unblemished and show no sign of bolster wear or cracking of any kind. Previous owners have always covered the seats with sheepskins. I have never seen leather so nice on a 22 year old car! The dash is near perfection without cracks. Gauges, carpets, and door panels are also perfect! Cocoa fiber floor mats in the correct color have been added. A burlwood cupholder has also been added (actually it is plastic, but looks great and matches the dash and console trim)! The engine and transmission perform flawlessly (both often described as "bullet proof" and designed to 500,000 miles without major repairs). Both are smooth and quiet and the car floats down the road like a brand new mercedes. the car starts right up and everything works exactly as it should. It drives down the freeway straight as an arrow and the suspension is tight as a drum. The ride quality is superb. Tires are brand new B.F Goodrich 205/65 R 15 with 60,000 mile guarantee. Brake pads are relatively new with plenty of life left. The newly converted a/c system blows cold on a hot summer day. Here is a partial list of what has been done in the past couple of years by the former owners in California who have owned the vehicle since 2002: valves adjusted, new ignition - German wires, plugs and rotor, new idle contol arm, steering gear replaced, a/c converted to R-134, new windshield, replaced all transmission and rear engine seals, timing chain inspected 2K miles ago, replaced valve cover gaskets, oil changed every 1500 miles, sheepskins on seats 98% of the time. This car has been extensively detailed and will be shipped with a cover, so it should arrive needing nothing! The vehicle does have a hardtop and will be shipped with the vehicle. In the Grand Sheme of Sports Car History written 50 years from now, these late 80's 560 SL's will be written in as the last of the truly elegant sports grand touring cars from Mercedes Benz. If you are looking for a fun weekend car with collector appeal one of these vehicles would be a great way to go! It is my firm belief that these Mercedes from the late 80's will become one of the most sought after collector's items in the not too distant future! These cars are elegant to look at and as pleasurable to drive as any new car! You will love EVERYTHING about this incredibly well maintained vehicle! You can enjoy all the pleasure of owning a brand new car without the new car price! This is the one to own! This car looks, feels, and drives like it is a BRAND NEW MERCEDES BENZ! I have over $12,500 invested in this vehicle and would happily keep this vehicle for my personal use if reserve is not met!
