Vehicle Detail
1957 Chevy 2 door post project/parts car. I purchased this car on e-bay back in June 2003 from a seller just outside of Indianapolis, IN as a project car. I began my work by first pulling the body off the frame and cutting all of the rusted flooring out of the passenger and trunk areas. I stored all of the sheet metal downstairs in a utility room and kept the car in a corner of my garage for all of these last eight years. The roof is straight but has some issues with surface rust on the underside and some rust/corrosion has crept into the area where the roof attaches to the upper rear side windows on both sides. The dog-legs (pillars) on both sides where the front window curves around and up to meet the roof are both pitted with corrosion at the bend. The area on the rear window where the roof attaches to the rear posts that rise from the forward corners of the trunk lid have some rust decay. The quarter panels are in good shape. The rocker panels are in good shape. The dash-board is in good shape. Both doors have rust in the bottom channels and lower door skin areas. The trunk lid, fenders and hood are in good shape. The frame looks straight as far as I can eye-ball and the body mount braces are solid. The fire-wall section is in good shape, but the previous owner did a lousy job of cutting a larger opening for a late-model steering wheel assembly - it will need some patch work to clean it up. Running Gear: The car has a 327 with 2bbl carb and I believe a 350 Turbo-Hydoramatic trans from the shape of the pan and stock rear-end. Engine ID # 3956618 indicates a 1969 327 cid according to: http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php The car was not drivable when I bought it, but I was able to hear it run and it sounded healthy. I have not run the engine since. Interior: There are no door panels or headliner. The front and rear seats were already reupholstered. Trim: I have three large boxes full of parts and trim. Chrome: The front and rear bumpers are straight, but pitted with rust. Glass: I have all of the glass except for the rear window and one wing window. Title: The car has a clear Indiana Title - though I never bothered to register it in my name.
