Vehicle Detail
1990 ZR1 Corvette. 24,083 original miles. 6 spd. Red What you are seeing and bidding on is the first year of production for the ZR1. The ZR1 is the super hi performance production model of the 1990 Corvette. The ZR1 performance option was a $27,016 increase to the standard Corvette sticker of $30,000. This particular car, with its optional glass targa top and electronic a/c tipped the sticker just over $60,000 new in 1990. Only 3049 ZR1’s were produced in 1990. 1560 came in Bright Red Immediately you will notice some differences in the ZR1 from the standard Vette of 1990. First thing is the back end is 3 inches wider than a stock vette. Second, the third brake light is roof mounted. The bumper brake lights are squares instead of round. Huge 315/35/17 tires on rear. There are more differences of course, but these listed above you will notice right off. The 375 HP LT5 engine. designed by Lotus, is bullet proof. Hand assembled by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, OK. 375 hp is net….that would be roughly 420 hp per GM via the old days of gross HP rating. This car is fast, even by todays standards. In 1990, 0-60 times per CD was 4.4 sec. The 2009 base corvette runs 4.5. ZO6 runs 3.9, ZR1 runs 3.4. (2009 numbers from Edmnunds.com) I suggest you research further the ZR1 legend at zr1netregistry.com. It is really something to read…. This car is perfect. Lets go through each area and discuss. Documentation – the most important part of any car of interest. This car comes with tons of documents. Such as: Original window sticker (framed) Original bill of sale Original finance agreement Original Corvette ZR1 brochure for 1990 Original Pizza Box – this is the box that contains a ZR1 video, key fob, ZR1 performance driving manual, key ring, document folder with brass plate of first owner. Original Dealer Pre Delivery check in documents – in wrapper “sold” mirror tag . signed with 1st owner name. Mechanical Service Guide Electrical Service Guide GM issued supplement repair manual Original Owners manual Original Jack instruction sheet Original Lug nutt instruction card Original jack and tools Numerous Service receipts Old registrations One (1) leather briefcase to put all this stuff in. Carfax Extra stuff: The car comes with two sets of ZR1 floor mats. One set red, one set black. Both sets in perfect shape. 3 car covers. One is bright red spandex type material. The other two are gray weather tech type material. All three are clean and perfect. One (1) spare fuel pump. Note: 96 Suburban uses same fuel pump ! cheaper ! One (1) GM correct color oil filter Original Delco/Bose Cassette/CD unit Paint - the paint is perfect Bright Red and all original. No history of being hit or touched up or resprayed. There are no dull spots or scratches. No cracks. No nose pecks. No door dings. There are maybe 3 door edge peck repairs that I will have to point out for you to notice. Well done. I have clay bar cleaned the paint and polished it myself. Smooth as glass for a 19 year old car. I would give it a 9 of 10 Interior – interior is as new. Steering wheel leather is perfect with no flaws. Dash is perfect. Center console is perfect minus a ding on the metal face plate for the performance switch. I am guessing somebody dropped the roof top on the metal at some point. Carpet is as new. I have two sets of ZR1 floor mats, both perfect. Rear hatch is perfect. Door sill is perfect, with ZR1 black metal sill. Seats are in perfect condition for 19 year old leather seats. Little to no wear marks. Glass – all glass is “as new” and original. ZR1 came with special solar shield windshield with proper “cut out” for radar detector. The story is that the solar shield would not allow detectors to pick up radar due to the shield. So GM did not shield a small portion by the hood so you could mount your detector low on the dash. Very hi tech for 1990. Side windows are perfect and operate as new. Rear hatch glass is perfect and operates as new. Side mirrors are fine too. Wheels. – these factory original wheels are a site to see. They are perfect. No scratches, blemishes, dulling or anything. They are the best I have ever seen. Tires – very nice replacements with 85-90% tread available. Exhaust – Previous owner replaced from original to Corsa performance exhaust. Tastefully done and looks/sounds great, but not original . It cost the previous own $1400 to replace it. I have the receipt. Targa Tops – this car was purchased with the option glass top and painted hard top. Both tops and the storage bag are “as new”. Engine – Engine is clean and shines great like new. no dully from high heat or high mileage like most ZR1's. All rubber and hoses are nice. Aluminum is not pitted or dull. Very clean and nice. After market SLP cold air intake kit comes with the car as well as the original OEM air intake. see video of car running....amazing water glass test. Audio System – This was a two week decision process for me. I bought the car with the OEM Delco/Bose Radio/CD/Cassette deck out of the car in a box. The Bose speakers and components are intact and aftermarket Kenwood radio/cd was in its place. But it did not look correct to my eye. I searched and searched for an option. I was about to send the OEM unit to Texas for refurbishing and software upgrade, when I found a Pioneer Double Size unit that looks like it came from GM and is recommended by Corvette owner sites. Remembering that CD players came out in 1987, the 1990 model was junk, even new, compared to todays standards.So..I had the new Pioneer Premier series radio/cd/mp3/blue tooth unit installed. Hands free phone option works great….so you can drive. It looks correct, and sounds great. Sound is clear and crisp, not a kid thumper. Remember….. As stated above, if I had not found the Pioneer unit, I would have sent the OEM unit to Texas to get checked over and put back in. I have the OEM unit in the box should the new owner wish to re-install it. Please call me with any questions you may have regarding the car.
