Vehicle Detail

Not exactly 'barn fresh', it was stored outside, next to the barn for the last 11 years. This is my buddies car, he doesn't do ebay so I am helping him sell it. He bought the car about 12 years ago with no motor in it. He then bought a 1970 pontiac catalina. Working his first job out of tech college at an automotive machine shop he rebuilt the Pontiac 400 to stock 70 catalina specs, bored .030 over. He didn't drive it much (maybe 2000 miles) before he hit a deer. As you can seen in the picture one of the headlights came loose and the fender got a big dent in it. It saw an occasional day time trip after that but was no longer driven regular. Some friends talked him into putting a Edelbrock Torker and a Holley Double pumper on it. That didn't quite work out as hoped. The carb was way too big for a stock cammed motor (although it could be rejetted to calm it down some), but the bigger issue was a leak between the water pump housing and the intake manifold. You Pontiac guys know the Flat O ring I'm talking about, and the need to tighten the bolt that squeezes it before the actual manifold bolts. Anyways after it leaked he didn't want to do the intake again and it got parked, under a Pine Tree next to the Barn for 11 years! So last week we got to talking about it and drug it out of it's resting spot. Surprise no Brakes! Another surprise, this one a good one, the motor was still free after all those years. So we brought it in the shop, changed the oil and filter and the INTAKE gasket and put a battery in it and NO SPARK! I put a module in it and still no spark, I wiggled the pick up coil wires and it started, but to me the Pick Up coil is still suspect.I couldn't drive it far or fast with no brakes, but I drove it over by the hose and tried to wash over 11 years of Pine Sap. It runs rich (black smoke) and has one lifter that is still ticky after the 10 minutes or so of run time it's had. Still sounds strong. If it was my project the cam and lifters would be out and I'd have something that matches the RPM range of the Intake and Carb! That would fix the lifter issue, but it might come back just running it as well.It will run well enough to get up on a trailer but has NO Brakes. I'm sure it needs a master cylinder, I pumped the heck out of them in the shop and didn't see any leaks, but then when I was driving it to the garden hose I was pumping them a lot and thought maybe they did come up for one brief second, but then went back to the floor, so maybe I blew a line then. This is a car you could fix and drive and drive a little more and fix a little more or you could bring it in the shop for a complete restoration, you decide. If it meets the Reserve it is going to a new home, if not I'll fix a few of the things here at my shop (make it actually drive able) and put it back on with a higher reserve. Also Listed locally Today as well so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Serious buyers should email me or call me on my Cell before 10 PM central.Questions? It has been sitting 11 years. It is rough! No headliner! Broken Driver outer door handle, needs door pins and bushing (NO surprise). The floor pan and frame are really solid, quarters and fenders are rusted. I tried to take pixs of everything, but pictures aren't as good seeing it in person. These cars are becoming a lot more collectable recently since the early models bring so dam much money. Don't bid if you are unsure of ANYTHING. Call me or email from the computer you are sitting at right now!!Thanks,Matt(920) 371-4993
